Hi all.

Considering a potential deal with the above garage on a trade for my 993 Targa to a nice manual 996 turbo in silver (I'll try to attach the link - but I'm a bit of a luddite!).

Anyone had dealings with them?

Any views on the 996?

I'll need a PPI - so any recommendations as I live down in Devon.

Thanks.

Link to the 996 turbo:

Thanks - really helpful.

Just wondered if anyone had any dealings - if you're passing by I've attached the link to the 996 I'm taking a look at.

It's a 5 hour drive for me, so don't want to waste time (and put 600 miles on mine) if the photos don't do it justice

Hello, I've had no dealings but drive past regularly and have often been impressed by the cars on the forecourt. Barton is a lovely village too, which is hopefully reflective of the businesses there.

If it helps at all, you will be passing the Cambridge OPC in Harston too as you come up the M11.

They repaired my Golf gti a few of years ago and gave a full list and photos of the problems (the bill was £1500). And received a good service.
They do rent expensive cars for the weekend toy type thing and used to have a lot more stock but now it seems very sparse.
I can drop in tomorrow as I'm going into Cambridge and have a look but not sure if they are open.

No experience of dealer but my purely personal views on that car

Quite an early year for price, nice low miles, poverty spec, not keen on grey interior

This would get my vote for budget / mileage

Thanks all. AdamB - saw that one too but not keen on all the remapping.

I thought a non sat hav turbo looks a little less dated.

There's another silver 996 turbo up north with low miles too.

With you on the PCM1 on these cars, look much better without that naff tape deck. The 2.1 on my 997 turbo is bold tech but looks ok and works well enough for my purposes now I have an updated DVD.

Fair point although Wayne is very highly rated, if you don't share my opinion and the condition checks out your Cambridge car may a good one for you, think I would be happier at 42-43

For that sort of money I'd be looking to get into a 997 turbo, even less dated looking.

Had a quick look in today and didn't see any sales bods around,

The car is tidy for the year and seems to be good condition, I don't think the grey interior does it any favours though. The are stone chips on the wheel arches and bonnet but no rarely bad ones. It has been stood for a while as the amount of cobwebs on it and in it.
Tyres are fairly new.
When looking for my boxster I looked at 6 models and found a 07 plate which is a very nice tidy one, the prices seem to be which way the wind blows.
I'm not up to date on the 911 range (I'm a boxster fan) so have no idea if it is priced correctly.
Hope this helps.
Personally if I had the cash I would look for a 997 (unless this is an investment)

Thanks SpinJim and Adam B. I'll def take a look at the black one as well - not about to make any rash decisions.

It's a weekend fun car - so get your point on the 997 turbo. Was thinking of getting the 996 for a couple of years then seeing how a 997.2 turbo were fairing.

I love my 993 but think it's time to experience a turbo.

I went for a 7 instead - preferred looks inside and out

For a few k more, or maybe same if you negotiate well is this 5 years younger car, manual, nice spec, with a lot of recent maintenance

I'd struggle to part with a lovely 993 for a 996...especially as a weekend car - would miss the sound and smell of the air cooled.

Have you spent much time in a 996 Turbo? They are nice cars and I did almost buy one many years back but once you get used to the acceleration you might find it less satisfying than the 993. The only 996 I would sell a 993 for would be the GT3, especially if it were to be a fun weekend car.

I know the guys at Wallis and have had cars serviced there. Very capable and professional, if you like the look of the car you won't be put off by the garage or people when you get there.

Not driven a 996 turbo. Get the point about a GT3 and it would certainly be on the shopping list if money were no object. I have to limit myself to £50k or else divorce no 2........

I will miss the 993 but it's time for something different and turbos (996 or 997) are relatively rare.

Hi, Family owned have a good reputation around Cambridge as they have been in and around Cambridge for a long time. They carry out allot of vehicle collections for us and always carry out a good job. They also carried out the work on my 944 when the head gasket went and did a very good job.

911 virgin have a younger x50 for the same price ( slightly more miles)

I think 996 turbo prices have topped for the time being
