Hey folks, our little one has almost out grown her baby seat / carrier and we need the next step on the ladder!

We went to about 4 places and all had different seats and advice. There seems quite a big gap between the cheap and very expensive ones!

I like the idea of the rotation to the side for access to the seat but its not critical. I understand new legislation means the child must face rewards to a certain age now?

One of us does the nursery drop of and the other the pick up, we are really confused as to whether to get a cheap seat and an expensive seat (for long journeys) or what!?

Any recommendations appreciated!

We have a Nuno Rebl which rotates. Makes life a LOT easier when they weigh more IMHO.... Suitable up to 3yrs old or so..

Both my children(!!) purchased the Britax swivelly things for their respective sprogs. Expensive but saves your back from damage when they get heavy but can't yet self-load.
Perhaps I should have said "when they get heavy and strong, don't want to be strapped in and are going to struggle to the bitter end".

Halfords do offers from time to time on the seats they sell.

It does? Our 23 month old has been in a forward facing seat since he was 9kg and grew out of his group 0 seat... We have a Britax something or other that wasn't too expensive and should last him a few years biggrin

Get a seat that will allow them to rear face for as long as possible - until 4 ideally.

This is the single biggest factor you have control over in reducing risk to them in an accident.

The Scandis know a bit about this stuff.

BeSafe is an excellent manufacturer.

Like tyres, everyone will recommend what they've chosen.

Go to a specialist retailer, invest some time in understanding the options, try them in your vehicle, with your child.

You'll very quickly know what's best for you.

We just got a Recaro Monza Nova IS for our 17 month old. Its interesting that it uses a crash pad rather than straps. Very impressed so far and she seems to love it. Will do her until 12 or 135cm.

At some point they will kick & scream and refuse to get in their seat, regardless of direction.
This is a very good site for next stage rear facing seats: http://www.securatot.co.uk/rear-facing-car-seats/b...

Your issue is using two different cars regularly, are you planning to have another child at some point? If so you're going to end up with two anyway.......

Just do a google search for 'best child car seat' and all the latest info + independent reviews covering daily use and safety will be there. Then buy the best you can afford.

having tried that first and finding a lot of conflicting info I find it sometimes best to speak to real people using a product

The problem being that all you're going to get is anecdotal and sometimes old or inaccurate information on a forum like this, which when safety is the primary concern isn't really the way forward IMHO.

ok i get it, would be fine if all I did was post this, however I have extensively been on google with my wife and have been round multiple shops. Sometimes its just good to fet some opions like this on a forum! you could post your comment on many many threads on this forum and it wouldn't leave much happening?

Most threads don't concern the safety of your children for the next 10+ years though, so not really comparible.

I feel for you as there is so much info out there it's a real challenge sifting through. Based on what I've just see the main things are isofix if possible, rear facing until 4, lots of side protection and anti escape straps/harness so they can't riggle out when you can't see them.

Good luck.
