900 mile 4 month old car - I get this message

Hi, interested in seeing this next Saturday if you're around? It looks good, if condition is as expected then we could probably take it on the day. Please advise any defects

Is this a time wasters message or are people so paranoid they suspect it's borked at 900 miles.

I put the reason for sale in the advert (kids don't like back seats)

You just never know. It's an odd message, but some people do ask odd things when buying cars.

It wouldn't be that unusual for a little ding, a stone chip or kerbed wheel after a few months. So maybe the question isn't that bad.

Until they start making offers to buy it on PayPal before seeing it, I'd be nice.

doesnt sound so strange , understandable to say you want to look over the condition it could have been keyed or rolled over into a ditch on its first day

He sounds like a tt. Unless his car is the only one of its type in the world I'd give it a miss, he sounds like a nightmare to deal with.

I am the seller, it's a common car (mustang) so an odd message I thought.

Then what's the problem? He's asked you to advise if there are any defects.

This is the point where you advise him of any defects, or advise him there are no defects if there are none.

Is there anything else we can help you with? biggrin

"Saturday..take it on the day".if this was me I'd say NO, you take it when payment clears or full cash. After reading of dealers folding, not getting payment, etc I would never allow any car of mine out of sight until it's paid for.

Bank transfer - easy. You can even watch him do it if you're really concerned.

That is so painfully obviously a round robin text.

His office Jr finds the cars which fit his criteria, this pre-written (and possibly automated) text goes out and he deals with the replies by the end of the day. He's found a month's worth of stock and got a good idea of what he'll pay for them, where he's getting them and when for the sake of about half an hour and sending the same text 30 times.

Please advise of any defects is a part of the standard text. In fairness, normal people don't sell cars after 900 miles.

It's also not as stupid a question as some are alleging. Could you have crashed it, got a car park ding, chipped the windscreen, kerbed an alloy or anything else in 900 miles? Yeah, pretty easily. It's unlikely the wheel bearings or grarbox mounts are on their last legs, but the car could already be damaged.

OP: you are mad. Or, at very least, you have too much money. The children will sit where they are put. They are children, their opinion is invalid. For what you'll lose on this car (it's not going to be a cheap car), you could have alternative seats fitted. My preferred option would be a roll of tape in order to silence any back seat criticism.

Selling a brand new car at a fantastic loss because the children don't like the seats. I think I've heard it all.

Am I missing something?

They guy is stating that if the condition is as expected, he would buy it and take it the same day, and can you advise him of any defects he can be aware of...which is all perfectly understandable.

So what if the car has done 900 miles and you've said the reason for sale is that your kids don't like the back seats? That has no relevance to what the guy is asking.

If it's hard for them to see out consider seat bolsters/raise their height?

Or buy a Honda jazz to ferry kids round in.

Yup, I've done it twice - the internet is a wonderful thing.

I'd be slightly suspicious too...of you op. I would find it hard to believe somebody was getting rid of a brand new car because the kids don't like the seats. That's some spoilt kids

I would suspect it's a lemon that has spent most of those 4 months in the dealer workshop and the OP wants rid before any more trouble.

I must be missing something. Am I completely bonkers or did that message just seem totally and entirely normal?

Me as well, he sounds keen if he is willing to pay on satisfactory inspection, probably just wants to make sure the mileage is not down to it being smashed up and sitting around for ages waiting for a repair.

OP likes to piss money up the wall. This isn't unusual. Lots do this.

Bit I still wouldn't let ANY buyer drive off same day without payment cleared. Recently a big chain dealer rolled over on a PHer when their payment didn't come through.

I think it's stranger getting rid after 900 miles than the question being asked!

Anyone who thinks that is a normal message is way out of touch with how private buyers get in touch to buy fairly expensive cars, I would expect more questioning about reason for sale and if the service pack can be transferred, also I have hidden the reg so I would be asking for the reg to HPI it - this is either a knob, a kid or a round robin from a dealer.
