A polite answer was sent within 20 minutes saying it had no defects, was unmolested (no stripes or cat backs or even decats) and they can come on Saturday but we need an idea of time.

I already know (from experience) an enquiry like that is from a time waster experience tells me a private buyer would ask more and a trader generally calls if genuinely interested.

If this guy turns up - £100 to charity
Can you confirm your address. Deleted your last msg smile

for a newish car like this would an interested buyer not phone instead of a very short text?
OP have you bought a new UK Mustang and speculating on turning a quick profit?

I ordered it Jan 2015 as a perfect 4 seat ragtop to replace a E500 convertible it was a no brainer at the price but it's dark and cramped in the back and in all honesty the cheapness shows through (it is cheap in the uk) and that grates on me a bit.
i wouldn't have a 2 year service pack if I was flipping it

He sounds like a tt. Unless his car is the only one of its type in the world I'd give it a miss, he sounds like a nightmare to deal with.
I am the seller, it's a common car (mustang) so an odd message I thought.
The blue convertible one? Looks nice smile

Don't see your problem, I've just sold a 250 mile Mustang to a lovely chap who asked if any defects and everything worked etc, and having looked at it he paid for it and took it away on the same day.

If money is sent by faster payments it's pretty much instant, you can check this by calling the bank or by moving it from one account to another.

Just curious, those who say they wouldn't let the car go for a few days to ensure payment is cleared if a dealer wanted you to pay 3 days in advance before you could collect it would you agree to it ?

I buy cars for a living, 95% of transactions now I send a small deposit via online banking desk top site - not mobile site, save the payee and then when I collect the car I use my Barclays App to make an instant payment, the money is in the recipients account straight away.

We set the account up 60 minutes in advance then send £1, then the rest.

"Saturday..take it on the day".if this was me I'd say NO, you take it when payment clears or full cash. After reading of dealers folding, not getting payment, etc I would never allow any car of mine out of sight until it's paid for.
Paranoid much? He means he'll pay for it first, not drive off & then contact the seller later in the week with offers of bits of cash every other week.

It was a classic time wasting contact and I haven't heard from him since. I am genuinely surprised anyone thinks it could be anything other than a time waster.

I'm not sure people didn't think it was a time waster necessarily, just that the message wasn't particularly odd.

Good luck with the sale OP.

Tend to agree with DSL here , if I was interested in buying his car I'd be on the phone asking any questions verbally not sending a question by text, if happy with the answers I'd then arrange to view it at a mutually convenient time , rather that than start a text ping pong conversation.

He'll not buy it.

Emailing or texting is perfectly normal for buying a car. Every website that sells cars offers this as a method of contact for a reason.

Some people are useless to speak to on the phone. They don't have the details at hand and often make errors.

Sending an email or text it gives the person time to collect the information you've asked for before replying.

It also mean you've got in writing the description and they can't backtrack later when they claim "I didn't say that".

I much prefer text or email.

Agreed, the last few cars i've sold privately have all started with emails from the person interested asking questions.

I actually find I get a higher volume of timewasters via the telephone with people ringing up at stupid times asking "Will you take £Xk cash mate if I come now" etc.

But he replied by one or the other , so the person making enquiry now has contact details
