Personally I'd rather have an MPV if I needed seven seats, but I think I'd in a minority of not much more than one there.
I feel the same. It's a shame that there is so little innovation in the MPV sector these days. If anything, the latest MPVs are morphing into SUV shapes; look at the latest Renault Scenic and Espace.

Regarding this car - it's nice enough, but it just doesn't excite me in any way. I don't see anything really unique or innovative in it. I think Skoda will do very well with this, but I wonder what percentage of sales will be conquests from other brands, and what percentage will be cannibalised sales from either other Skoda models or (more likely) other VW Group SUVs.

"looks the same as the rest of VAG cars" - says Ken in his (insertrandomnumberhere)D BMW.
Don't be silly it can't be totally random because that would imply they may go over 20D

It's like VAG are positioning buyers of their SUV's in to a socio-economic class system, represented to the world by the one on your driveway. It's quite clever really, there's a subconscious influence exerted on you to 'move on up'.

They've being doing it with passenger cars for years, now in place for SUV's..

Super premium - 'I'm very rich' - Bentley
Premium - 'I like the best and I'm worth it' - Audi
Premium and sporty - 'I value performance and function' - Porsche, Lamborghini
Functional and classless - 'I'm comfortable' - Volkswagen
Sporty/edgy - 'I like to be different' - Seat
Functional - 'I'm a no-frills, like good value type' - Skoda

YMMV smile

Kodiaq won't because it's MQB which is for transverse engines. No Transverse V6's in any VAG vehicles AFAIK.
3.2 and 3.6 narrow-angle V6s in several transverse applications (R32 Golf, R36 Passat, Skoda Superb V6).

This would definitely be an appealing family bus, esp with DSG as well.

My missus has VW Tiguan and it's interesting on the Tiguan forum I look at that quite a few new people have appeared since the new model came out and they've moved from either Audi A3 or Q5. So - within reasonable price brackets - VAG fan-boys will buy any brand from within the group.

Also a lot of the forum members would like a bigger (well, 7 seat) Tiguan - VW aren't even going to release the standard new model in the US. Even though the old one sold well, they're going to get Tiguan XL.

I also think there's still a lot of people, especially older ones, who still think of Estelle etc when they hear Skoda. I reckon this is the vehicle that will make the Skoda name acceptable to them.

But surely VW's 'bigger Tiguan' model is the Touareg?

You're right. I meant in current models.

Am I the only one who noticed "150bhp 1.4 petrol", "1600KG", and "7 seater"?

Even if that weight isn't an outright lie this is going to be a real slug. 2 adults and 5 kids = 350KG. With a few people, some stuff, and fluids this is going to be a 2 to 2.2 ton vehicle with between 150 and 190bhp. Nasty.

This is stretching MQB a lot too, it'll be interesting to see how they fare in the longer run with suspension wear and powertrain reliability compared to a platform truly intended for 2000KG lumps like this.

That's why I qualified and said 7 seats - Touareg isn't available with 7 seats. Anyway Touraeg isn't very good on usable space inside - everything in it is kind of "fat" - fat seats, fat centre console etc.

Tiguan XL is 110mm longer than the standard model.

Ah, fair enough, I didn't know that (that the Touareg isn't a 7 seater).

Normally I disagree with this sort of thing - to my mind SUVs should be driven like chauffeur driven limousines.

However I do think the manual petrol could be hard work. Diesel auto suits these cars better.

I ordered a new Superb about 2 months ago, was tempted to wait until this was revealed as I was very tempted, and I sort of wish I had. But I think what I'm getting in the superb is more space and value for money - as much as I like a higher driving position I imagine the superb estate will be the better car in the short term.
Will think about a kodiaq when the superb goes back in 4 years.

Less of a slug than you'd think, maybe: Entry level versions of things like Fiesta's have 75BHP and weight over a tonne, so this is significantly better.

And as you add weight with passengers, the difference gets more pronounced. Also, seven seats is an "option", and Discovery Sport (for instance) doesn't allow this option on the entry-level engine. (and, seven seats usually means zero luggage)

It's never going to be the quickest thing on the planet, admittedly.
