Approved, great shed.
A few years back, a friend in the UK bought a 4.2 for about shed money only to find on his drive home it was pissing oil everywhere. Unperturbed he continued to drive it for a month and sold it to a guy in Paris who collected and drove it all the way to France.
As the article says, built to last.
What _ ? I like your writing style as it could be something written on the back of a paper back novel... More PH related question how much would an equiv with 4.2l V8 cost ?
I had a 4.2 Quattro Sport (1995 version with teh 4 speed box so no worries about gearboxes on that one!) and it was lovely.
I had to check if that was mine because thats also a Sport (recaro seats, 7 spoke allots and slightly lower stance) and mine was the same colour.
At £620 I'm seriously tempted as the shed for the holiday home.....If only it was an estate (never made in A8 form).

I've watched enough action films to have a real soft spot for A8's. If I was man enough to buy one, it would have to be V8 and Quattro though. A bit pointless otherwise?
Depends whether one wishes to merely waft everywhere or make haste. The S8 had firmer, lower suspension and 20" alloys with low profile tyres so it was a bit crashy on anything less than pristine roads so I suspect the normal A8's are a far more refined place to tick off the miles.
It's only now that it's gone and I'm back in a normalish-but-still-quick car that I realise how fast it really was.

Is shed now just a list of once big expensive cars now hideously depreciated by crippling road tax, fuel cost, insurance and repair costs?
Just wait until we start seeing cars with £500 a year tax old enough to really hit rock bottom.
You can get a D3 4.2TD on £200 ish VED Just wait until we start seeing cars with £500 a year tax old enough to really hit rock bottom.

Clutch master cylinder 650GBP

The garage that looks after my cars is going through one of these to make it nice at the moment.
This is why people who buy these cars, grow to love them and end up with a collection of them in various states of dismemberment !Clutch master cylinder 650GBP

I had one of these in 1997 as a company cruiser - ran it for the there years of the lease. £37,000 new. Drove it to South of France a couple of times and called it a "time machine" as no time seemed to pass getting there as it was such a sublime m/way cruiser. Not so much fun on small and twisty raids obviously but still felt light and half its size to drive. Never found the V6 lacking in urge.

Refurbished PAS pumps start from £50 on ebay. Nobody would spend 6k on a pump for £620 car, unless they're complete idiots who don't mind being scammed by their garage.

Had one of these on demo for a day, when they were new. Loved it. Fast forward to May this year, and I find myself the owner of a late-edition S8 version with the 40-valve 4.2 360bhp V8, in black with grey leather. An awesome piece of kit. My favourite thing on it is the motorised rear window blind!! Oh, and the £3k price tag, with an S8 private plate to boot. What's not to like....?
