Supercars outside ordinary houses
Discussion
So my walk home takes me along an ordinary suburban street in Lewisham, SE London. I've noticed a low car under a heavy cover for quite some time. I've been trying to guess what it is for ages. I was thinking NSX. I finally saw the car uncovered and it turned out to be this!

The f3ero plate made me think it was a Pontiac Fiero based Replica but according to totalcarcheck it's the real deal.
It's parked right opposite another 3 bed semi with a V8 Vantage on the driveway. It got me thinking - are there any better examples of spectacular motors parked on the driveway of dull suburban houses?

Hilarious how some people plough money into a depreciating asset like a car, but won't put a penny into a decent appreciating asset like a house. Still who am I to tell folk what to do with Their paper.
And not exactly super cars but it does amuse me how on many council estates you'll always see many flash Mercs, audis bimmers Porsches etc.

I wouldn't expect to see deprecating asset and diablo SV in the same sentence.
Especially when they were £50k about 7 years ago... Invest £50k and its now worth nearly £200k in 7 years... not bad for a depreciating asset.
I live in Hertfordshire (ignore the username) and see numerous examples of this quite often.
The most notable of which is a black McLaren MP4-12C that sits on the drive (not even garaged!) outside a fairly modest bungalow near Costco in Watford.
As a PHer, I have no problem whatsoever with the implications of this. We tend to think of growing up as meaning more financial responsibility/ prioritising etc. Didn't most of us dream of having a supercar on the drive when we were younger? What value do you place on owning your dream? A bungalow ain't that bad imho...

That's the exception rather than the norm though. I wouldn't expect to see deprecating asset and diablo SV in the same sentence.

Not really, that's the norm not the exception. The right Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini etc. not to mention anything "classic" have all seen big appreciation in recent times. Certainly way more than bricks and mortar have gained over the last few years. A reasonable 996 Mk1 GT3 for example was 25 - 30K 5 years ago, try finding one for less than £60k now.4U2P said:

If they are happy in the house and area, who cares? And not exactly super cars but it does amuse me how on many council estates you'll always see many flash Mercs, audis bimmers Porsches etc.
I don't want a massive house and live in a nice area, so why change that?

Not everyone is a sad money obsessed scrougeAnd not exactly super cars but it does amuse me how on many council estates you'll always see many flash Mercs, audis bimmers Porsches etc.
Some people would rather have fun than leave a huge amount of money for their relatives to fight over when they are dead

Some people spend their money to enjoy life, if I had £150k in my back pocket I wouldn't be going on Right-Move to add to my 'portfolio' And not exactly super cars but it does amuse me how on many council estates you'll always see many flash Mercs, audis bimmers Porsches etc.

There are houses in the lewisham suburbs that are £800+ K for a 3 bed semi nowadays

I don't get the point of this or see what the issue is. That looks pretty awesome to me.Let's have a look at a picture of your house and what's on the drive?
Are people with big houses only allowed nice cars?
Really lame pistonheads reference!

I really don't see the issue with this if you've already paid off your house, or maybe you're happy where you are, then why change? I live in a 3-bed with my wife, if I had a large payrise I would buy a nicer car before buying a larger house with space and 20-year mortgage I don't need.
