RE: New Land Rover Discovery teaser
Discussion
Oh no, another ugly, low power school run bus. Happy is my friend who specialises in repairing Land Rover cars, he earns a fortune by rebuilding these fragile, cheaply built, unreliable, self destructing machines. Eaten a turbo? No problem, body off, replace whole engine, that'll be £8k please... Suspension sagging, no problem... and so on. Happy man!

PH really is hilarious, people calling it ugly from a single image..... pathetic pessimist galore....
You should all be grateful they are even making it!
But the image published, the one the maker is happy for us to see, shows yet another ugly car... What, the back is so good we'll forget we saw the front? It's only because Jeep have a similar idea of what a feu off-roader should look like that Landrover get away with this. I feel strangely wound up about this...You should all be grateful they are even making it!
Oh dear...
If the forward canted C pillar was "fixed" straight up and down it would IMO look considerably better and about 5 times more like a Discovery, presently a quick glance its hard to tell if its a RR or some hideous Kia cross-roader thing.
I would love to have a Disco, I even test drove a 30K mile exmaple recently. I felt sorry for the salesman as we passed a Discovery being attended by the AA and a second on a recovery truck within the 10min test route... its one thing to have a reputation, its another when its not actually funny.

As the FFRR becomes more and more of a high riding limousine I always thought the Disco was the car for people who actually needed an off road rugged car all be it with a little luxury.
Don't think they've portrayed that well in this new design.( Look at those tyres) Looks far more targeted at the chelsea tractor brigade which is what I thought the RR Sport was for. I'm getting confused.

the latter aimed at the hard core off roaders and overlanders.
That smells of BS unfortunately. No hard core off roader or overlander would set off in such an overcomplicated, untried and expensive vehicle. And air suspension gives better ground clearance, which is why it was standard on the D4. Coil springs are just a cheaper option.Edited by anonymous-user on Tuesday 6th September 11:19

I'm sure it will be a winner but a 2L engine in a 2400kg offroader. Just wrong
Who told you it was 2400Kg? No ladder chassis in this version and expect 204 or 241bhp from the 4 pot. Whilst the old 2.7 will have more torque, it was a pretty slow vehicle and early versions were certainly under powered with 188bhp. PH forums coming good again. So many useful comments above
Personally I'll wait to
a) see one in the flesh before judging and
b) check out the practicality. I need it to be a genuine 7 seater (why I have a Disco 4 and not a RRS), I'm a little concerned at first glance that it has a flat roof-line which suggests the third row of seats may not be quite as optimum as they could be. But hopefully LR have done something clever with the packaging

As I said in the 7th or 8th post, "I'm not a fan". Just my subjective opinion. You should all be grateful they are even making it!
Not quite sure why I should "be grateful they are even making it".

As for being grateful, this is PH, a place where vehicles such as the Disco are (or should be) celebrated in an age where niche (crude) models are dying by the way side.... but you go ahead and not be grateful.. ;~)

Turbo can be done with the body on these days. I'll give you the suspension. Its one of the D3's biggest issues. Prices on them are tumbling too. This Disco will go the way of every other Disco. People will say they are super reliable for the first five years, then expect the issues to start appearing thick and fast.
From the photos I have seen, I think it looks pretty good. Looking forward to seeing the interior
