Finally what we have all wanted from Alfa for such a long time. In the past even the Alfa aficionados, could agree that their products were not quite up to the German rivals, but had "soul and style" in spades, even if they were not quite as fast / equally engineered. Now Alfa has addressed those points and should do so well - lets now wait for the, they rust, breakdown, depreciate, have terrible dealerships comments, none of which is on the whole true now either, but something from the 80's and 90's.

Well done Alfa - and yes I am an Alfa fan and the driver is a hero !!!!

Well it did complete the whole lap without breaking down!
No rust after 7 and half minutes that's impressive too.

I don't remember the last time I saw a genuinely fast Alfa, so this is nice to see.

Back in 2002/3 when Alfa came up with the 156 GTA - but it was a bit behind the M3 at the time, you could then think about the 8c, but not an Alfa accessible by most

I wonder if the moment he nearly lost it was down to a wheel sensor failure? The TPMS warning popped up on the dash a couple of seconds before it went all wobbly.
That was pretty much where that Koenigsegg crashed in testing the other month, wasn't it? He did seem to go absolutely balls out through the compression.

It's the auto box, so I'd imagine it'll be a slightly ponderous change rather than the rev counter.
Have you heard it change gear rather than watch the counter, there's nothing ponderous about how that changes gear!
It does look like the needle is still dropping down after up-shifts when the revs are climbing! Odd. Actually, not odd. Italian electrics!

My desire has gone from "love" to "lust".

That said, having zoomed over to the Alfa Configurator, I have been frustrated by the options available.

1. If you want the horseshoe alloys, you can only have them in dark grey, not silver
2. You cannot spec the interior seats to be anything other than black. No gorgeous momo tan leather (or red leather for that matter) - that's hugely frustrating. I don't want a black interior. It's Italian. It needs acres of non-black leather. See Maserati for examples of what I mean.

Out of a matter of interest do these lap time records carry independent observers, engineers etc, to check the car is stock, that it has road tyres rather than race tyres etc?

I remember Evo had a 147 Alfa press car that was putting out huge hp compared to its official figures.
No...there's no reason to. It's not an official measure.

It looks 23 seconds faster than F10 M5 pace to me wink

And don't forget that no M5's are actually 'only' 552bhp
