I think you'll find that the first picture was taken in 1928, and the second picture in 1983. The additional exhaust pipe was fitted by the second Sir Cecil Burney, who always had a difficult relationship with his grandfather and had vowed to avenge the old man's insistence on a single pipe, which was a perennial source of friction between him and the younger Burneys.

I think I may have licked the wrong sort of toad this evening.
Keep licking them - that was funny hehe

Getting harder to find a 5 litre R129 SL within thread budget. This one might just stay under 10k after wheel refurbishment, assuming everything else works. Has the M119 engine and 5 speed box. One of the previous owners put 40k miles on in 2 years, going off the MoT checker. Now at 95k.

  • I am obviously a hamfisted luddite and can't get the Ebay link to work.**
Looking at the MOT history (or lack of), Sir might like some brave pills.

Oh my, that is fabulous. Scary but brilliantly fabulous.

Looks nice. One owner in 50 years must be very rare.

Really lovely, great history to it as well, I wonder if you could get a chinwag with the current owner on purchase?

Have noticed that there are some seriously cheap Merc SLK's out there, 2k seems to buy something that isnt a dog, but they go as low as like £1200, the rust doesnt seem to be as bad as on W210 E classes and CLK's, nice summer top down motoring, might get one instead of the C1 when youngest goes to Uni, at least stick it to one side.

The wheels would have to go, but this is otherwise quite nice. Not sure it's very cheap at 6k though?

Those wheels are so wrong.

But it's not a bad price if it's as good as it looks.

I think I'd rather have this. Thin on service history, but looks lovely.

I'm on a Jaguar-fest tonight. This must be too cheap at £8400, surely?

Note the quaintly amateurish attempt to hide the VRN, which is clearly visible in some of the pictures under the black nasty.

Not much info in the ad.
I would have thought most had leather.

Either here or the barge thread - from memory it went through an auction (Anglia perhaps) at sub £1k with rusty wings. The vendor is a regular on Pistonheads too I think.

It went through Brightwells Modern Classics last August IIRC for 900 with rusty wings. Think it was marketed at 6995 to start with after repair and refurbishment.
