Attractive in this spec and 5.2 to 60 is decently quick
Is it really "only" 5.2 seconds? I would have thought it would be quicker with 306bhp! Not that it isn't "quick", but it could be quicker!
It weighs 1500KG, it's very lardy for a two seater. An X350 XJR is only 1700KG and with 400bhp only manages 5.1 odd secs so that seems in order.
The old boys' Jag is a fair bit quicker than 5.1 to 60:

ETA: Jaguar claimed a conservative 5.0, ac found 4.7.

thanks for the excellent info WorldBoss - much appreciated and i doff my cap to you - the thing he was referring to was the boot not closing jist before i trimmed the video, it would always open itself, then he moved to the engine - again dealing with a Dealer brings me nowhere - story goes - 80 year old gent he felt sorry for who wanted to buy an SL from his stock, for a last hurrah so he took it in as part ex, but its "perfect working order",,,,, sigh......
No worries - It's a little bit disheartening to see you get messed around by these traders AGAIN.

One can only imagine what rubbish he would spout to a perspective buyer when they are both stood in front of that engine bay with it smoking away and the pump screaming - I'm sure that's when the "What do you expect? Its a 14 year old car!" card will be pulled... Well for one I'd expect it not to be on fire... biggrin.

Do you mind if I ask what that car is up for? I'm curious.

As you probably know from looking at the high end 221 market, these traders are asking serious, serious money for what are essentially ultra niche decade plus mega complex vehicles that the majority of Mercedes technicians won't have ever seen, let alone know/care about. They must have a large margin to even entertain as a retail prospect, but almost all of them seem to put precisely zero interest or money into proper prep work or in many cases, even the adverts - 16 year old V12 mercedes being listed at £15,000 with ONE grainy photo. Its like they're not even trying.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202104091...

And they only encourage other traders and private sellers to chance their arms at silly prices... Fair enough if they sell for the advertised prices, but they then sit unsold for months and months and months which do these cars no good whatsoever.

It's a rough market out there, there's a fair amount of choices out there but from where I'm sitting, almost all of them are over priced, under prepared choices. I utterly, utterly adore these cars, that engine and platform but I'm realistic and appreciate that the running costs and passive wallet bleed is something to be aware of, and that's way before we get to these retarded asking prices. People are asking similar prices to what you could get a similarly aged Bentley Flying Spur for, and while those are another level of bork and headaches, its a friggin Bentley, not something that 99.9% of the public will assume is a soot chunker 320 CDI with fake badges... That's a large part of the fun, but not necessarily worth paying for.

Was it smoke or water in the exhaust that collates at this time of year

here it is on AT - I got to it before it got posted up on AT photowise, and asked for the vids - but the price is what he was talking about - it certainly has a lot of options for a 500 .......
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202103280...
i liked the smaller wheels TBH and the understated look ....

its not just dealers with these Mercs - i've phoned around 3 to 4 about A8's at the moment - they couldnt be less interested in me - and my old view of "he'll never sell that" seems wrong, as they then get sold (well, at least disappear from AT) anyway - its not a buyers market at the moment it seems.....

can everyone please go back to massive PCP agreements on Audi Q7s!!!!!!!!!!!!!

leave the barge market alone smile

edit: i think whats concerning me the most is the fact these engines despite the FMBSH on the car seem to be able to get in this state even at low miles like above - 65K isnt high mileage (in my book at least).....

edit2 - thats what i'm considering now worldboss - S class diesels - i really like that era and interior, compared to the standard fodder of bland audi/vag options and the f01 7 series interiors. I've given up on the top end ones, and just searching for the spec i want interior wise.....

Have you looked at this one

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-2008-OBSIDIAN-BLAC...

It appears to actually have "every box ticked" vs dealer speak "every box ticked" which normally means it as an AM/FM Radio. The one with the engine noise vid has no extended leather so might as well be a Yugo as far as I'm concerned hehe

Buying used cars is like this no matter if it's a barge or a Fiat 500, but given that mine is one of the best I looked at and still has a few niggling faults I'm ignoring/getting round to I'm quite sure any of these can be expected to have things like a non operative CD changer, or a sticky sunroof. To a certain extent you have to manage your expectations from a 13 year old car.

Nobody was interested when I offered mine for a bit more than WBAC money!

Immaculate condition Honda ATR here:

Can't decide if it's overpriced or not far off the right price due to it's overall condition...

I think that car might be the first in the history of humankind to be listed as "fully loaded" that is actually fully loaded - What a spec! It makes most 600s for sale look Spartan.

Given the original wheels tendency to crack I can even forgive the chavtastic replacement wheels... The Brabus badge however...

Have you called him yet rider? biggrin

Would be fair if it had collector miles, but it's pushing 100,000 miles... Full HFSH or not, with that price and mileage there is plenty of room to get a not quite as meticulously serviced example up to that short of stanadard, and without "wow" mileage it's never going to be the centre piece of a collection, even for a Honda fan boy (imho).

Noooooo frown

What I meant was part of the fun of a 600 (and less extent a 500) is it looks like a 250bhp soot spitter, but having twice that amount of power... Not that you should actually buy one with soot spitter performance frownfrownfrown

Do some reading into the 272 engine and it's balance shaft issues... And in the realms of "the internet says" scare stories on mercedes, I've seen that failure happen more than a few times.

I have to say that if you're not interested in that mega uber spec 500 I linked then I don't think you'll ever find the right car. If I take off my "500bhp ha ha ha" hat it's the best 221 you can get; the "just right" engine but with all the spec.

Given the bills an aging soot chucker can throw and how much more prone to burst struts airmatic is than ABC I'd not be even remotely surprised if over 3 years that S500 works out no more expensive to run than an S320d.

I've found two nice looking W212s in private buyer colour/trim spec. There seems to be a chunky premium if you want the 350 petrol though, you can get 350d models for £7-£8k ish and a 200/220 is a £5k car even with less than 100k on the clock.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202104111...

Terrible pics but that colour looks great in person, and the lack of silver plastic trim is good too.

Or a retirement spec saloon with super low miles

Burgundy, tan leather, low mileage, fancy-looking floor mats.

Definitely looks like it's been looked after by an older owner. Good find.

That colour works well I think. Interesting that the two cars you posted work especially well due to their interesting colours.

That colour somehow seems to add a little more class to the E class. No disrespect to anyone who owns one, (they are in actuality, very fine motorcars) but this colour is a little less.....Uber.

Fully agree; chatted about it on the DC2 thread the other day...

It's a lovely car and very well looked after, but it's a c£6k car every day of the week IMO; it WILL need the 5th gear sorting at some point, they all go...

£10k car it's not and never will be
