Lovely Cars: Interesting, Classic, Retro, Barge 5-10k
Discussion
Loving your work Oa, I'm reading a thread on retrorides at the mo, where someone is doing up a Masarati, his is little more rusty and less lovely than 'your' one.
I think the Volvo coupé has been kicking around for a while, as those pics look familiar. It's still lovely though, just not cheap.
Oh and how can you not love that velour interior?!

That's been around a while. It must be an age thing with my family having a top spec Talbot Horizon when I was a lad but I love chrushed velour. I wish it would make a come back.

You'd have to wear a cream suit driving it, surely!
Probably too expensive, I like the manual though, and the colours. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...

Just how ruinous would one be to own?

If you answer No to both my questions then the answer to your question is, very.
Sadly I kind of knew this. 20 years ago a workmate bought a Daimler Series III VDP as something fun to tinker with. Once he got down to it he found so much rust and metal that appeared to have never been painted. Is your bestest mate a welder?

I know someone who has one of these. Is your bestest mate a welder?

He's had it 20 years and counting, never going to sell it it is part of the family. Only used May-Sept and is garaged in an insulated garage. Over the years he has spent a fair bit on it but it's immaculate.
Frustratingly for him he also had a 328 which he sold for very low £20k's before they went silly value wise and part of the reason was to spend some of that on fixing up the Jag..... hindsights a wonderful thing.

The 3.6 is a surprisingly coarse thing for a straight six, although in these days of 4 cylinder diesel engines in "luxury" cars I doubt anyone would notice. Probably too expensive, I like the manual though, and the colours. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...
There's an old thread on manual XJSs here and there seems to be general support for the 3.6: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=113...

So what you are saying is that this would be an ideal daily driver to be left outside in rainy salted Scotland?

This comes under the 'interesting' part of the thread title. Imagine ordering this back in the day... I'd love to know the story. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Maserati-biturbo-2500-19...
If I had a spare garage I would buy that, I have space on my drive but I couldn't keep a car like that on the drive. Gutted, it looks lovely!Must have been stored in a de-humidified body bag for all that time
I can't remember the last time I saw one on the road.

Quite. Our old Daimler XJ40 was very cultured, very smooth but still had a good S6 howl when extended. Lovely engine (and suspension).
But.
The bodywork seemed to have the half-life of a snowflake.
