80s Escort Substitute for 6.5k

Not a Manta but my first car was a mechanically identical Opel Ascona B 2.0S with the carburettered 100bhp engine as opposed to the later 110bhp fuel injected cars. The aspiration was always a Manta or Ascona 400 with the 144bhp DOHC 2.4 litre engine.

The Opel Ascona 400 holds a small slot in history as the last rear wheel drive to win a driver the WRC World Drivers Championship for Walter Rohrl in the early 1980's. That 144bhp apparently became near to 340bhp once the factory cast a wand over it - all naturally aspirated.

The facelift in 1982 worked wonders on the Manta sales - addition of an extra gear with the Getrag box and fuel injection on the old 2-litre CIH engine turned it into a genuine 120+ coupé -amazing for 110bhp.
U.K. had more of an appetite for rwd coupes back then . Manta sold more in its penultimate year of production than the new GT86 sold in the first 3 years out here

I used to have a Manta, not a GTE but the lowly 1.8 GT.

I was always surprised how good the performance of it was but I always thought it ticked over really roughly, one day I found out why.

A garage we used for repairs had a rolling road and one day I had it in for them to check out why it ticked over so badly. They said it will always tick over badly as someone had had some engine work done, high lift cam, different manifold, carb changed etc.
I was well chuffed.biggrin

500 bhp CLS 55 AMG in Designo Mystic Red - the Almandine de nos jours - and red interior. A cricket ball-coloured blur on the autobahn that might just sneak into thread budget.

Oh that's stunning. Do we really think it will go anywhere near budget? Lovely colour and low miles.

I like this M3, not sure about the garage and 'private sale' though. http://www2.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Or for similar money, this. The world's shortest ad though! http://www2.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

I saw a brown 6 cabrio with a light hood the other day and experienced a pang of desire. I am always a generation or two behind liking BMW's designs!

A disappointing lack of pictures, but a white over blue R129 on OZ splits is a very appealing prospect.

Um, it's white over Sato Grey 7738, surely. Blue Sacco panels only happened with blue body colours.
I suppose those wheels would sell on eBay.
