250 produced, 200 for retail customers....
Methinks that perhaps all of that 200 weren't sold, or VW are selling off the other 50 cars (unless they had 'other' customers that I don't know about?)
Strange how we are seeing these at various VW dealerships, unless it's the same one doing the rounds?
Either way, I couldn't bring myself to buy one as I'm not convinced that VW have sufficient spares for these, not only the body panels, but also the engine and electric motor, which, as they only produced 250, would make sense economically.
All 200 cars were sold quickly, including 23 to the UK. Of those 23 UK cars, it seems 17 were purchased by VW dealerships to use as showpieces (marketing tools. doubling as investments), 3 were bought by private collectors (and are not being used as far as I can tell), and the other 3 were bought by private enthusiasts who have been using them regularly from new. Volkswagen have pledged to support the cars with servicing and spares for at least 15 years.Methinks that perhaps all of that 200 weren't sold, or VW are selling off the other 50 cars (unless they had 'other' customers that I don't know about?)

Fair dinkum, the dealer did a cracking job with the PH advert;
I thought any half decent dealer would avoid using pompous language like this... And maybe provide a little more detail?
Yeah, Yeah...

In terms of practicality, the XL1 is an excellent commuter car. There is no range anxiety because range is unlimited - you don't have to use the electric propulsion and when you just use the diesel engine alone it does around 160 mpg and you just keep filling the tank every 300 miles or so (the tank holds 10 litres of diesel). If you do actually bother to charge up the battery before setting off, and let the computer control things, you'll get around 600 miles on a tank.
Of course none of this is of much interest to the XL1 owner in reality, since he/she would have purchased the car only for the fun of ownership - the way it looks, the exclusivity, the fascination of the technology, etc. The BMW i8 (Judge Dredd's wheels!) is a fantastic car but doesn't hold its value and you're already starting to see them everywhere. A BMW dealer recently offered me a new one (well, it was their demonstrator but looked perfect) with a £25k discount off list price!

as the article says
why not just get the original honda insight?
so close to each other in concept and for a lot lot less - although admittedly leggy

The interesting bit is that the insight has even more power: 75bhp vs 67bhp for the VW!
Harry Metcalfe loved his.
