What's the best-looking hatchback ever?

This is best looking hatch in standard spec or.....
This just wins. Proportions or just right. Similar to the 205 but better
Neil from Art Attack could make this car out of cereal boxes, plastic bottles and foam then say "when you've finished, you'll have something that looks exactly like that"
I just don't see how something I could draw using a ruler could possibly be better looking than a Fiat Punto, MG ZR, Alfa Romeo Brera, VW Golf R32, Vauxhall Astra VXR, Ford Fiesta ST, Honda Civic or even the late 90s Peugeots

your working doesn't make sense. the Clio Mk1 was/is minimalistic (and chic design for its time) even in its Williams guise. Four of the cars you've mentioned are 'flagship' models in the range set apart because they have extra 'boxes' 'plastic' and 'foam' bits stuck on to let anyone who cares know, that they're tuned.

As I have said on previous posts on this general topic, it's the position of the B-pillar that makes a car look exciting, or a boring people carrier. In my opinion, the further back the better. There are a few exceptions to the rule, naturally, but in general this works for me.

So glad these three got a mention and the CRX (although I'm not sure it meets the brief). Others I agree with are the Delta, 205, 306, 147 and Grande Punto. with the runner up being:
90s:
My own curve ball for the 80s would be the Mk2 Renault 5 which looked pretty good in standard trim and great as the GT Turbo.

Very good choice of cars. forgot all about the Alfa 33. ..

Yup, said that for years now. Fiat nailed this. Shame they mucked up the Evo facelift but it still managed to survive that with most of its dignity intact.
Even normal versions look so right.
Definately agree with these 2 Fiats with a preference for the original Mk1 Punto if I had to pick one, probably because it's actually a small car and not the size of a 1980's Ford Sierra. Ok so what's under the skin might have a bit to be desired but based on looks alone neither car would look out of place and considered to be a step back in time if they were shown for the first time today. Like many timeless things they were right first time out and could not be improved as confirmed in the rather dodgy facelifts.Even normal versions look so right.

Has a bit of a toyota vibe going on at the back...Either way, the french/Italians truly are masters of hatchback (or indeed small car) design, stuff like the 147, Grande Punto, Clio Mk4 just beats out the competition
Honourable mentions to the pre-FL mk7 fiesta though

This is what gets my vote. Just looks so right. Even with 2 extra doors.
But other cars worth a mention are the Mk2 golf Gti(big bumper), Peugeot 306 gti, mk1 focus RS and lastly the EG Honda Civic.
