The brakes on my Mk1 1.8 are awful. Plenty of resistance through the pedal, but very little 'bite'. I had an issue with a sticking caliper, which ruined one of the front pads. Caliper is fine now and I replaced the front pads, my OH sourced them as she worked at a garage, but I suspect they were dirt cheap!
I'm going to replace discs and pads all round as the rears are looking past their best.
Can anyone recommend a decent combination of pads and discs? MX5 parts have a full set of unknown discs and EBC ultimax pads for around £110. Genuine Mazda for £245 or some fancy looking EBC drilled and slotted ones with green stuff pads for £255.
Would I be better off with plain discs and some green stuff pads?
I keep threatening to do some track days at some point, so ideally want something that could stand up to that.
Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

I have been using yellowstuff for the last couple of years with standard disks. My car is used for a mix of road, autosolo, sprint and track days.
I have had no issues with them and they were a massive improvement over the stock pads on track and provide ample bite from cold.
A mate with a mk3 found they wore quickly I have had no issue but then again I have a mk1.
I fancy a change to some Roddison pads are arriving today and I am at Llandow tomorrow so will let you know how I get on.
The Roddision pads are £60 for the fronts delivered for a mk1 1.8
Yellow stuff are a bit cheaper , particularly if you order form MOT Motorsport who have been the cheapest each time I have looked.
Not tried the Mintex ones so no idea how they compare.

Thanks for everyone's input, I've decided to SORN the Mazda for the winter, as I've not had chance to do some rust protection that I had planned this summer, that gives me plenty of time to research and save money for the right set up.
Llandow isn't heavy on brakes so I wouldn't worry about it much.
Yellow stuff are fairly good and don't fade but there are better out there. They can feel a little numb, especially when cold.
Axxis ULT bite much harder and always feel great, hot or cold and they don't fade at all. Dusting can be quite heavy but any track biased pad will.
I haven't tried Roddos pads or Mintex 1144 but both are highly rated and I'd put both well above Yellowstuff.

Slight change of plan, realistically with Christmas coming up and the car needing a bit spent on it to get it track ready, I've decided to leave 'performance' pads for a while.
Had a reasonable quote for a full set of Apec discs and pads all round, the plan is to then look into better pads as and when I need/can afford them. I'm hoping that Apec items should be of decent quality?

t' lane at the Bus Stop due to brake fade will disagree with this!be aware too that your local factors may do calipers cheaper than a certain MX5 parts place that sells MX5 Parts if yer know what i mean. I bought one from an MX5 parts place for £115 once then needed another some weeks later, my local motor factors in Havant sold me one for £55!!! explaining "thats why they sell so many to a certain MX5 parts place"!!

Recommended on mx5nutz so make of that what you will . Came with nipples and grease and much cheaper than mx5parts
