Jaguar XE. Already. From the rear 3/4 view it looks like a generic last-generation saloon that's overdue its successor.

Agree with the RR Sport - the new model shows just how bad it was.

I would say the second generation Ford Focus - the first one was cutting edge but just how bland was the follow up? The facelift slightly improved it and the latest ones not too bad.

Also most pick-ups pre 2009 or so look too boxy and dated now most went all swoopy and curvy with their designs, thinking L200, HiLux, Isuzu etc.
Pick Ups post 2009 essentially became trendy steads for the style conscious with few of them retaining their working class roots, space and usefulness.
The reason pre 2009 trucks were boxy and featured right angles is because that's been the most practical and usable configuration for the past century.
Haha my pal was due a new pickup for his work. Ended up going for a Great Wall (Supposedly good Chinese company recently debuted in the pickup market) because it, I quote 'Looks like a 10 year old Navara, nice n' boxy', which is what it was replacing. He really loves it and nothing of note has fallen off in the few months he's had it. Paid an astronomically low price for it too, <£15k for the top of the line model before VAT (which i think he recovered through his work).

Like most chinese vehicles it looked dated as hell leaving the showroom floor biggrin.

The old Peugeot 207 tail lights have aged appallingly. They always looked bad but the passage of time has not been kind. They have that awful design of a single bulb beneath a perforated cover to attempt to give the impression of an LED cluster or similar. It was a look that was just becoming popular then and the 207 seemed to want in on that style without any of the technology. I always hated these lights, particularly when the indicstor is flashing inside and highlights just how naff the whole thing looks.

Same here with the RRS, can't believe how suddenly they are looking dated.

However, I still think the FFRR from 2002 on can look OK still.

Compare this with the RRS above, and this is 4 years older....

Agree about the RRS; I think the L322 still looks great, the proportions and the lines keep it fresh. The earlier the better for me, the pre-2005 models didn't have too much bling and are (relatively) tasteful.

Early Porsche Cayennes looks have not mellowed with age, they still look ungainly - no mistaking one of these for a current model.

Dear, oh dear, they are dreadful. I forgot about those.

Agreed on the Dacia Sandero (and I own one!), but it's just been facelifted and now features... LED DRLs. Oh yes.

I think cars that slot into the market the moment they are released and then become hugely popular straight away seem to date far more quickly.

As mentioned the first Qashqai was very popular and you see them everywhere but they will look old and average. The same goes for the RR Sport, again a car that the average person loved and now they're ten a penny and look of the era they were from.

I think the first Fiesta ST hasn't aged particularly well, especially compared to it's rival back in 2005 a Clio 182 which I think still looks fairly decent.

Have to say I disagree with that, we had a 207 up until recently and I thought the lights looked pretty good seeing the design is 10 years old.

Mk2 A3 looks pretty dated now, but then it always looked boring.

I'll start.

I was sitting behind an early L320 Range Rover Sport the other day and it appeared (to my eyes, at least) to have aged really badly. I'm not sure exactly why this is as it looked good when it was launched and many of its contemporaries still look decent enough, but I guess it doesn't help that the current car has massively moved the game on in every area. The facelift version looks better than the early ones, but the particular low point for me was the blinged-up HST model. eek

Agree? Disagree? What else isn't growing old gracefully?

HST:
I think its those hideous tail lights. I saw a post on instagram from this company called Glohh who produce after market lights for this model, and they transformed the car and made it look upto date again

much smarter i reckon!

EDIT: Apologies, looks like they're for the facelifted Range Sport, not the original

Is it just me or have the pre-facelift E60 5 series saloons aged awfully too?

The pre-facelift focus (mk3? - 2010-15) looks a little dated now also

Fully agree with that. Dacia duster looks like something from pre 00s

Glad it's not just me then! Some others have picked up on some good ones, actually. The early Audi LED DRLs where you can see the individual diodes aren't looking too great nowadays. And yes, the pre-facelift first generation Nissan Qashqai looks really old too.

There are some new cars with these '8 bit' LEDs on & they instantly date the car like they are Halfords £29.99 after markets.

Was beihnid a pre facelift e90 3 Series, was surprised just how dated it looks, the M-Sport still look good but the normal ones look very dated. I have to say though the rest of the car still looks ok, I think it's the rear lights that spoil it.

The New c1/108/Aygo have made the older models look like crappy 90s cast-offs and proven that cheap cars don't have to look so bargain bin.
The wife owned a few 107s, brilliant little cars actually.

i8 IMO. Looked fresh for a few minutes but will date like the Lagonda has although I find the Lagonda strangely cool again now.

Yeah was about to post the exact same thing, Most of the French stuff I think ages pretty well, I think its because they tend to have long run models, wheras the Germans seem to update there visuals in some wayevery couple of years.

I don't think it's the lights that are the issue as they look good on the F-Type and XF. I think the proportions of the XF just look altogether wrong from the side and rear. It also needs the sport kit and big wheels (much like the XF and many other saloon cars) or it's a bit dull.

E38 without too much added 'bling' is a fine looking car.. I think it's stood the test of time very well..
