A super high tech diesel engine from a company that hasn't made diesel engines. You wouldn't want one out of warranty I'm betting.
Yeah. VW have never been known for their diesel engines. Oh, hang on.....

People who could/would never buy a Bentley complaining about a car that people that could, do. Now criticising the manufacturer for making more of a car that is already outstripping supply, and for putting a more suitable, very new-tech engine in such a car.

I'm sure Bentley are gutted to lose majority of your support wink
As has been said, most will be funded through companies, not purchased. Therefore there are quite a few individuals who could be driving one if they so wished. The fact that for most on here a RR is still the more interesting option should be of interest to a manufacturer who is competing against them?
No they won't. Very very few of these all be bought through businesses. The Tax liability is monstrous. Of all the Bentley drivers I know, ditto similar level cars, not a single one is a company vehicle. It makes such massive sense to take an allowance and buy/finance privately. The only people I know who take a £100k+ company car are driving Teslas due to crazy attractive tax positions.

Funny that, I know several myself who use the business to fund them. The main issue is that a good proportion will be leased, therefore your suggestion that all the negative comments are due to jealously, or a lack of purchasing power are totally unfounded.

Using a business to fund it is different to taking it as a company car, as Ares said the BIK would be crippling.

It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't absolutely hideous! I really do reckon I could have designed a better looking Bentley SUV / 4x4 myself if I could be bothered.

Would much rather have a Range Rover SV Autobiography and spend the change at their Special Vehicles department (and some off-road goodies because I would actually use it!).

I'm sure it won't take the crown as it will always have Bentley maintenance costs so that won't be an issue. As for the car not being off road capable have a look at these:

It's most deffo a proper off roader but like he said not many will bother venturing offroad but good to know it's there!
I would not go as far as to say it's a proper off-roader, soft roader would be a better description

I'm not dishing the car, but to say at 70k it makes a ranger rover pointless implies it's the superior product when in my view it's not, it's the more luxury product so it will always have the niche market that wants the super interior and Bently Badge but that's all it's got over the Rangie

can see a few of the DFS type sofa company bosses buying these. 50 plus, died hair, Marbella tan and some overpriced sparkly watch.
Especially if they can have them with "interest free credit".

Not my cup of tea,but will sell well no doubt.

That's a bold statement - care to post-up a few renderings to back-up your claim? Nothing too detailed required, just a few vignettes.

I get the premise entirely, especially from VW's point-of-view, but why did it have to look so God-awful?

Makes an F-Pace look gainly.

People seem to manage to fix 20 year old Bentleys and all manner of stuff that was considered complex in 1996, a lot of it is Audi based/sourced, not home mechanic territory and it will be expensive to keep going but sure its possible,

The fact you roll out this tired line shows you know nothing about what you speak. Change the record mate, hiphop has moved on since the 90s.

http://sniffpetrol.com/2014/12/18/bentley-to-build-new-rb-centre/#.V-JvCSgrLIU

entley has announced plans to expand its Crewe HQ with a brand new, £40 million R&B centre.

The state-of-the-art R&B facility will include a variety of simulated terrains including Ocean Drive in Miami and the street outside a club in Los Angeles upon which a large man in what appears to be a fur coat can emerge from a Bentley whilst his companion opens the passenger door and inadvertently shows a waiting paparazzo her frou frou.

The new centre will also contain a high tech virtual reality room in which the styling of a forthcoming model can be checked to see how it looks when filmed from a low angle in a brightly lit room whilst a buffoon wearing too much gold jewellery repeatedly stoops down and flicks his hands towards the camera.

Bentley’s investment in a new R&B centre shows how seriously the company takes it core markets, and the new facility will complement the firm’s existing, highly detailed simulation of the car park at Manchester City’s training ground.

CORRECTION: After re-reading the press release more carefully, it turns out Bentley is actually building a £40m R&D centre. Sorry

There are videos of the Bentayga doing this too - Shemee's video did go up and down inclines like this. I'm not dissing the range either - I own one (the sport) but if I was buying one today @£80k and could get a 3-3 year old Bentayga for the same money with a dealer backed 2 year warranty I would go with the Bentley any day of the week as it's a more premium product. Suggest you pop in to Bentley over the weekend and take a closer look they are an amazing place to be sat in.

I do need / want to get back in to this - I used to design cars for fun as that was the career I initially intended to pursue (ended-up in IT!)...

...and there goes an afternoon when I should be doing other things! In all seriousness, I'll have a go. Can't make promises as to when, though!

A Bentayga pulled up beside me at the petrol pumps yesterday.

The thing is fking horrible but looks beautifully made.
