Interested to know why you wouldn't ever own a Merc again
Not the original poster but I'll add something here. When you buy a Merc you get a 3 year warranty. So you take a car to a dealer with a fault, they try 3 times to fix it and fail. You contact Merc and they won't do anything. So you take the car to another dealer and they try twice and also fail. When the car comes out of warranty fixing the fault which has existed through the cars life becomes a 'goodwill' issue and Mercedes don't do goodwill or any form of customer service. In my case it's a small fault so not a big issue - in my neighbours it was a cylinder head leak diagnosed by an independent in 5 minutes but Merc garage denied there was a problem and Mercedes UK denied goodwill claim (out of warranty by about a month and a sub 30k mile car). Mercedes policies reward dealer incompetence
I live in a small village - within 75 yards are 2 neighbours who have had problems similar to this and neither they nor myself would ever touch one again

I am very much a fan of the rufty-tufty estate car - my current Outback is pretty much perfect for me. The thing is, though, since I do actually use them off-road a reasonable amount I really wouldn't want to spend loads of money on one I felt I needed to keep in good nick. I almost bought an XC70 for not short of £20k but got cold feet as I reckon I'd never want to actually take it down a narrow rocky track, which would make it a bit pointless. This Merc looks nice and a few years down the road I might have considered one, but with 15cm ground clearance and a pretty long wheelbase I'm not convinced it would be all that much cop off-road.
I'm a big fan of them too, especially the Outback with the big 6 cylinder boxers They make a lot of sense -I find my regular E class estate a bit low for our stty roads, speed bumps etc. Plastic cladding protects against car park morons. Don't like SUV's.

My C Class is a bit stupid in the respect and it's not even a Sport or AMG model. With 4 adults in it grounds over every obstacle.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
