Influence of Driving games on your actual motoring career ?
Discussion
Ok, not one for video games section, question is, how much have computer and video games influenced your actual car choices, driving or any other aspect of your motoring career.
I mentioned Porsche Challenge on the PS1 and JT Smith said it was why he is a car designer, now that is a pretty big influence !
I drove my Fiat Coupe turbo in GT before I ever owned the real one,
The GT games opened my eyes to all the weird and wonderful Japanese Domestic Market stuff we know about now, but was an alien world back in the 90s to most of us.
Am sure you have loads

Gran Turismo 1 & 2 and Colin McRae Rally definitely had an influence on me buying an new Impreza Turbo back in 99. Couldn't afford an STi so went for a UK car with PPP instead. Ridiculously quick and capable but realized fairly quickly that it's appeal was quite narrow unless you were up it all the time. Not sure now how I kept my license and health looking back now.

Zero influence, I do not play video games regularly. My car choices are based on real-life reasons.
Either that or perhaps Transformers?Edited by SWoll on Friday 23 September 15:06
Played a lot of Need for Speed Underground years ago, that and watching F&F almost ended up with my Mk1 Focus getting the a full makeover...
Planned to lower, new alloys, full bodykit, window tints, exhaust, air filter, etc... I wanted it all done at once, but thankfully never had the money...

I think I'm also part of the original Gran Turismo generation.
I don't think it really influenced my choice of cars, but definitely my style of driving. I try to follow a smooth line (whilst staying within my lane where necessary) so that I can drive relatively swiftly (not necessarily fast per se) around a turn/bend/S without my passengers ever feeling like I am going as quickly as I am.
Even when Karting with friends I'm usually always the fastest around the track, probably thanks to the understanding of weight balance/racing lines I gained from GT.
Weird, I was just thinking about this the other day too.

Camaro is my wife's choice, I prefer the Mustangs. Next car will be a GT500.KevinCamaroSS said:

That's pretty cool to think it actually got people thinking about driving in real life, but i guess GT Academy is evidence of that!I don't think it really influenced my choice of cars, but definitely my style of driving. I am certainly one of the Gran Turismo Generation. Just check my username - Gran Turismo opened up my eyes to the world of JDM and i'd love to add the collection eventually.
The other week i got a ride in a NSX-R and also snooped around a Nismo 400R. For most people, these cars are nothing special, but for me they are way more 'important' than any Ferrari or Porsche!
Just bear in mind the popularity and cost of collectable Porsches (GT3s etc.). They've made 1,000s of GT3s and yet only 44 400Rs. 44!
