Influence of Driving games on your actual motoring career ?
Discussion
I'm 33, I've played with cars since i was old enough to hold a toy one and have a real life long obsession/problem (so far).
Be it matchbox, scalextric, buying complete car/auto trader or playing gran turismo. These and many other automotive influences have lead me to be the petrolhead I am today.

Apart from the obvious GT and Forza, I remember playing this game on Nintendo 64: San Francisco Rush
San Francisco Rush
It does not have an influence on my driving except that I drove in SF thinking about some buildings
In the latest GTA V, I have made sure that I always have the car that looks like my 6 serie (e64)

Games like Gran Tourismo helped me starting to appreciate Japanese JDM card like the Skylines, Supra's and others. However, being in Holland rendered completely useless due to the RHD steering wheel position. When it comes to choosing a car in real life, I have always gone back to "what I know".
Despite all that, I now drive a Japanese import. But it is an Audi S6, with the steering wheel on the proper side of the car. The left-hand side (no offense, but in a country driving in the right side of the road, it's better. Honestly)

Video games caused me to get into cars in the first place.
I grew up in a family that had no car people in it.... I had to get into cars with no assistance.
This is where Video games came along!
Gran Turismo 3 , PGR 2 and the Getaway were where things really kicked off.
Started learning all the cars i saw on the way to school thanks to GT3.
Test Drive Unlimited is where i was first introduced to my dream car.
I will own a Brewster Green 1973 Pontiac Trans AM someday!

Metropolis Street Racer (MSR) on Dreamcast got me interested more in regular cars and road driving. GT was more about the track and modifying for me. Otherwise it had to be need for speed 3DO edition for conveying the mass of cars and therefore a thrilling sensation of speed (hard to imagine now if you view the screenshots!)
Video games have had a massive influence on me. I have fond memories of playing all of the GT series right from the start and that really got me interested in all sorts of weird and wonderful cars. Cars I wouldn't even had heard of or seen on the road.
I continued to play a lot and then eventually invested in a wheel which is when it really took off. I was probably about 15 at the time but playing games such as Gran Turismo and iRacing effectively taught me the principles of car handling and what/what not to do.
In later years I continued to play and when old enough was able to qualify for GT Academy last year which gave me the chance to get in something more powerful than my 40bhp Mini. I was quick in the game and managed to carry this over to the real car and drive with confidence - all due to the sim.
So yeah... I guess you could say it's had a huge influence not only on my interest in cars and the sport but also how I actually drive in real life.

Actually mentioned Gran Turismo in my 100k garage whilst on work experience at PH!
GT3 was what properly got me interested in cars, and here I am trying to write about them for a living.

Sega Rally is basically responsible for me owning this.
Love it, always think these are criminally undervalued compared to the Escort Cosworth and Integrale, someone will say they arent as involving or something, but look at it, not normally a fan of rally decals but that is fantastic.Driving career sadly not as ive never owned any j-tin
But due to playing Gran Turismo 2 rather a lot as a young 'un ive always had stron want for an r32 gtr.
The last game i really played was Gran Turismo PSP which i though was superb attempt for a handheld console highlights were just constant time trial laps of trial mountain in a 106 rallye and integra type r and my favourite (and they even nailed the throttle body sound on the game) an ae111 trueno like this one
There's a levin with the same 4A-GE Lump on ebay at the minute for 2 grand, Deffo a must own one day .. If i fit :O

My missus never plays games other than Candy Crush but spent a whole weekend on "DRIVER" trying to get through the car park test, the kids were little and basically were ignored until she did it
A combination of being crap at video games and having the tenacity of a Pit Bull.
Fair play! Hardly easy with a clunky ps1 pad,all those bastid pillars and hubcaps flying off everywhere A combination of being crap at video games and having the tenacity of a Pit Bull.
I was already pretty interested in cars from a young age and grew up playing Jaguar XJ220 and Lotus Turbo Challenge on the Amiga. However like many in this thread, Gran Turismo was a major factor in me becoming interested in JDM cars. It quickly cemented the Skyline GT-R as one of my all time favourite cars.
I ended up running a S15 Silvia for a few years in the hope I'd be able to afford a R32 or R33 GT-R, but they've gained value faster than I can keep up!
