Why should all young drivers be punished because some of them crash?
Because a disproportionate amount drive like utter **** doing thinks like handbrake turns to impress women and being concerned about getting "smoked" as you said yourself

Wow. That really does not make easy reading. I admire the opinions you expressed so eloquently back in 2007. I guess from your job that you still have that same passion for driving.
Yep. Still love it, despite what happened.

If you have ever watched an episode of Top Gear, you will know that there is nothing young women like more than a perfectly executed handbrake turn.

Again , you haven't thought that through. If you have a incident & the only premium that goes up is yours , do you think you could afford the increase?
Yep, easily not an issue.
You could fund a multi million pound medical claim?

Doubtful.

So under your scheme then if I am walking along as a pedestrian and a car driven by someone driving like an idiot loses control and knocks me down injuring me so badly I can never work again they get away with it scot free and I am left with nobody to claim off?
Would be interesting to see his argument to this one. These kind of claims very quickly turn into 6 or 7 figures. I doubt our guy can afford that!

How about. Take him in your car ( with no black box) go and take him out up some quiet country lanes and give it sone welly including handbrake turns.
Have some fun then tell him that’s where it should be done. Otherwise, take up motorsport I’d he’s that talented.

A mate of mine, who is a muppet (not for speeding but for getting caught) has just lost his license for getting 6 points in his first two years. So he now has to his theory and practical again.

What he wants to know is will he be on probationary period again for another 2 years after his test for the second time? Or does he then just get the standard maximum of 12 points even withing his first two years on his new license? I told him that he will have to be careful for another two years, but another mate said that he won't.

Who is right? I think it's me.

A mate you say, righto.
Have fun with getting insurance when you get your licence back.
Don't forget to tell them that you think they are scammers ripping off young people, insurance companies reward honesty.

Well the points from the first 6 will be there for 3 years so he would only be allowed 6 before hitting the 12 either way.

I got 6 in my first year in a single incident and just had to resit both my tests. Had to be careful till my first 6 points left my licence which was 3 years so the 2 years probation meant nothing.

As the Beach Boys sang

Well she got her daddy's car
And she cruised through the hamburger stand now
Seems she forgot all about the library
Like she told her old man now
And with the radio blasting
Goes cruising just as fast as she can now
And she'll have fun fun fun
'Til her daddy takes the T-bird away
(Fun fun fun 'til her daddy takes the T-bird away)
