RE: Five-door Fiesta ST
Discussion
The issue isn't with offering 5 doors at all - if anything it's commendable because it opens up the model to a wider audience.
The real issue is when manufacturers decide to switch to offering 5 doors "only" on their halo models. The 3 door is always going to appeal to a certain age group not concerned about practicality and concerned only with looks and performance. Then they scale back the styling too in order to appeal to a wider audience still, often bringing the aesthetics in line with the other "cooking spec" models.
I guess that's possibly why you see around 10 Clio 172/182/197/200s for every new-shape Clio. And for every 10 of these you see (probably take you a month to see that many!) 9 of them will have a little DCi badge on the boot, with all the sporting looks of the hot version and an engine which should only appeal to your gran.

I promised myself that if they ever made a 5 door Fiesta ST, I'd buy one! Having young kids means a 3 door isn't practical.
Now it's actually happening it suddenly dawned upon me: it's pushing nearly £20k new (albeit there should be decent discounts and good pcps soon) what happened to the £16.5k launch price? I can't help but think a focus ST would suit my needs better for not much more dosh??

You can get a 3-door ST2 from "Drive the Deal" for £14.5k new.. still think that's a decent price. Expect the 5-door to be £500 more. Now it's actually happening it suddenly dawned upon me: it's pushing nearly £20k new (albeit there should be decent discounts and good pcps soon) what happened to the £16.5k launch price? Lol. They make it appeal to a wider audience but the sales are 1/10th? The real issue is when manufacturers decide to switch to offering 5 doors "only" on their halo models. I thought it would look rubbish. To my surprise I prefer it over the 3 door which to my eyes has always looked like a toddlers version of a Nike air max trainer on wheels.
This......................Absolutely what I have always thought.

On the 3-door, the pillar is behind you, past your shoulder.
On the 5-door, the pillar is to your right (*), not just in your peripheral vision, but exactly where you should be looking at junctions. No wonder some people drive:
a) as if they haven't seen you
b) too close to the steering wheel for comfort.
(*) unless you are shorter in the leg than me.
perhaps I have just got long legs and arms - I can't get comfortable in most 4/5 door cars.
As long as the 3-door option exists, I would buy it over the 5-door version. I appreciate that I am in the minority.

That's surprising, I think I've only actually seen one on the road although I suppose as they now look so similar to every other Clio I could've missed some.
It's not if you quoted the whole sentence and not just a snippet. The MK4 Renaultsport Clio is actually selling very well outside of the UK.

There's 21k ST-1, ST-2 and ST-3s registered in total. There's about 1k of the latest Clio - Renault really cocked up with 5 doors and auto.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
