I had a 1999 Shogun 2.8 TD that gave me a good 'shove in the back', especially in 2nd. Didn't make me feel godly though.

V8 is just a cylinder arrangement - not a magic spell. They tend to be larger capacity than 4 pots and connected to autos.
Hair-trigger throttle response isn't really their thing.

Just a little update. In the mean time I've just taken advantage of a silly deal on a golf gti for the Mrs, I'll potter about in that until I decide, saw a gtr today and just don't really like the look of them. I'm going to test drive the new alfa giulia quadrifoglio as soon as I can, I know it's pricey on lease but it seems to tick a lot of the boxes.

Nice! The new Alfa sure does look great, has a sweet engine, and handles well, shouldn't disappoint, though the engine isn't as good as in the C63 S.
