A Bridge Too Far?
Discussion
In an attempt to take some heat from the smashed windscreen debate, here is something else to get your teeth into:- https://www.rt.com/uk/360655-police-protest-kurd-r...
I have always detested political correctness, the manner in which it frequently suppresses the truth and the stupidity it generates, and this to me, is a classic example.
How on earth can this copper's remarks be construed as racist? Unlike most others at this rally, it IS his country: he was born and brought up in it, and has served his country and the people as a police officer for most of his life. He has every right to assert this, and they have no right to deny him that.
We are descending into the worst kind of darkness in this country because we don't control those who arrive here with their problems and dump them on our doorstep.

You seriously can't see how it might be racist for him to suggest he has more right to his opinion than others, based purely on their ethnic origin? Remember - he knows NO more about these people than that one piece of information. He doesn't know their migration status, he doesn't know their nationality, he doesn't know where they were born. He only knows that they are ethnically Kurdish.jith said:

<blink> Seriously...?In dealings with the public in the UK you need to be aware that if they think it will get them off something or get them something you don't wish to give them they will regularly play the 'racist' card in the knowledge that authority & politicians will often immediately roll over & do as they wish.
As with the windscreen thread let's see what the final result is.

Wow, nearly as bad as the copper in question. I have always detested political correctness, the manner in which it frequently suppresses the truth and the stupidity it generates, and this to me, is a classic example.

The fact is that he said my country which means he was trying to indicate that he belonged here (not sure how) and that they did not. I would deem that racist. That is an offence against the law of the country, so regardless of the position he holds he has committed a crime which is therefore punishable.

i see this as more a 'the police don't accept or act on what people scream at them' we all know that in some countries you can tell cops to get lost or make it worth their while to leave.
could it have been worded better, i'm quite sure it could, but i suspect in the heat of the moment what he said was quick and to the point, but has been seen in the wrong context.
having had it banded about in situations I have been involved in, the race card is quickly dropped if someone thinks they can gain out of it.

Oh, no! Somebody at a demo said horrible things to a Policeman!I've been verbally abused for hours on end by people who are just waiting for a reaction to jump all over, its a common tactic. Wind someone up, call them every name under the sun and then act all offended when they get a reply.
So yes, someone did say something horrible to a police officer, its not his job to be abused.

What you deem as racist doesn't in itself make it an offence. I don't deem it as racist. The fact is that he said my country which means he was trying to indicate that he belonged here (not sure how) and that they did not. I would deem that racist. Oh, no! Somebody at a demo said horrible things to a Policeman!small wonder that they react sometimes.
i haven't got the stones to do the job, i wouldn't like the people i was there to deal with.
We hold our police in high esteem (well most of us), and expect a high standard, but they are only human.
he could have phrased it better, but just because the protesters said it was racist doesn't make it so.
BiB do make mistakes, but they also get a lot right and castigating a copper with 20+ years exp because someone decided to make a carefully cut YouTube video to me is not one of them.
lot of in his face pointy fingers from the protesters.
They are being aggressive in their actions to him goading him into a response/getting angry. WTF are they doing this for? Its not his fault anything about what they are protesting about. WTF are they allowed to walk down a road in London stopping traffic being pointy/aggressive and shouty at our police?
We are too tolerant I think, its swung too far. It is his country, its mine as well. Go protest somewhere else.

I didn't read his post like that. I read it as an inquisitive statement implying that the policeman did/said nothing to deserve the abuse.

I guess it was just a reaction to the constant 'Police must have done something to goad him/her'I didn't read his post like that. I read it as an inquisitive statement implying that the policeman did/said nothing to deserve the abuse.

The fact is certain members of the public are just obnoxious, ignorant and looking for confrontation. Police Officers don't have to do anything before they are subject of constant abuse.
