Any Mokka love?

Now I know it's about as un-PH a car as you can get, but the better half likes them and is hovering over pressing the button for a one/two year old Petrol SE.
Engine wise she knows both the 1.6 and 1.4T aren't going to leave anyone surprised in the traffic light GP, what you lose in tax on one you gain back in insurance on the other, and economy is negligible on the mileage she does, less than 5k a year, but are there any issues to go for one over the other, but frankly the colour is more important than performance, but reliability would be nice.
Any general experience on the cars, or the engines when fitted in other VX stuff.

I have had 2 Mokka's over the past few months as hire cars. Both petrol, a 1.4t and a 1.6. They are without doubt the worst cars I've ever driven and I'm gobsmacked by their apparent sales success.
The engines are course, strained and gutless, the refinement awful and there is an overwhelming feeling of the car having been built down to a price for people who have no interest in cars whatsoever. Actually, it's as though Vauxhall themselves had no interest in making it even the slightest bit good. Does that make any sense?
Maybe, just maybe, if purchased as a white good, you had no interest in cars or driving and had not driven anything even half decent as a comparison, then it may, just may, be acceptable. Otherwise, run a mile.

I think Heathwood's summary is accurate; I had a 1.4T auto as a courtesy car. Very poor interior quality and refinement, plus poor ride quality. Handling left a lot to be desired, too. Certainly the worst car of recent times that I have experienced.

Plus, my parents (who have only a passing interest in cars) thought it was 'OK', so maybe your OH would be happy with it. That said, even my parents said they wouldn't choose a Mokka over its rivals.

1.4 turbo - good engines but can be a tad on the thirsty side as you do have to work the engines a little, downside though is these have the dreaded M32 gearbox but im guessing a warranty would have you covered on that
16 vvt - Very reliable engine with minimum common faults, you do have to put your foot down sometimes on faster moving roads (ive got it in my astra)again mpg is around 39mpg combined which isn't to bad but this will have the 5 speed box a little revvy on the motorways but more reliable box than the m32

I have the 1.7cdti 4x4 model and have covered 30k miles in 2 years without any major problems. Only thing that has gone wrong is a sticky rear brake. In my opinion it's the better looking small compact 4x4 out there and it's neither brilliant in any dept nor the worst. It's very practical and a good all rounder. It's an honest car and does exactly as it says on the tin!
Well she picked up a 1.6 petrol today, she loves it, was plesent enough from the passenger seat, but a short drive shows it to be about as quick as continental drift. 
Luckily I only drive it once in a blue moon, seems to have enough toys, it looks quite good in metallic ginger and the leathers quite nice, but the main thing is she's happy so that makes me happy as long as it runs ok.

Glad to hear that your wife found the car she wanted, OP. Oh yes. As bad as you'd expect a budget 4x4 designed for developing countries to be. Are they really that bad?The interior plastics, in particular, have all the appeal and integrity of a Jacob's Christmas Cracker selection box. You know, that slightly waxy and flimsy feel?
The Captur has to be the pick of this class.
We hired a 1.7cdti about a year ago for a long trip and covered about 650miles in a day
I found the mpg to be pretty bad, on a long journey, driven sensibly, it gave nothing like the claimed mpg
The stop start system was not work correctly, where it would cut out at a walking pace, which gave a few heart stopping moments on mini roundabouts
Build quality wasnt too bad, visibility was good and overall driving experience was better than I thought it would be

That surprises me, test drove one and the trim in that was very low rent and the Renault salesman was by far the worst of the day.Lots of pre reg diesels on his lot and was only interested in selling them dispite being told the Mrs only does short 5 minute journeys most of the time.

I hired one a couple of weeks ago and initially was pleasantly surprised
It was nice enough inside with decent toys and around town seemed OK
Then we did 2 motorway trips and it was rubbish
Not only was it out dragged by a Renault Trafic van on a slip road it also returned pretty much the same mpg as a Ford Transit Id rented the month before
The noise was awful and after 2h it was uncomfortable and at 3h my back hurt like hell

My sisters thinking of a Mokka for her next car. I've suggested alternatives but she seems set this is the car for her.
How does the (facelift?) Mokka X compare? Same as the older model just fresher tech?
I assume discounts are readily available, looking at the 1.4T Design nav, maybe with winter pack & rear camera
