Great start to the day as i've just had the pleasure of a stone whack the windscreen producing a chip/crack at just under a 2cm.

My insurance uses Autoglass who are going off to see if they can use a genuine windscreen but i thought i'd check with Audi in the meantime. Audi York say that Autogalss windscreen replacement, even with a genuine screen, will cause issues as the car needs 2-3 hours reprogramming and calibration for the adaptive cruise control and lane assist.

Audi York quoted £958 to replace and carry out all the calibration which seems very steep? Has anyone had their screen replaced at Audi before? Are Autoglass just going to stick a screen in and tuff luck with the issues that may occur with cruise control/lane assist?

Any advise is appreciated..

Audi want the work; Autoglass will be the nominated - or preferred - supplier.

You can choose your own.

The price tag on the calibration *must* be inclusive I would have thought. The calibration or the requirement to recalibrate is a contentious subject.

Autoglass do have the facilities to calibrate, if* needed.

*if - 'if'.

Paul,

As I understand it (please correct me if barking up the wrong tree) as long as the new screen is fitted correctly and ignition left off whilst sensors detached it should just "get up and go" afterwards...

A man of your intelligence...

Nail. Head.

There are no variables in the equation, and those who are banging their drums loudly are all cashing in on a subject which they themselves have no tangible evidence to support the claims they're regurgitating.

Sweep across the A-to-Z of cars and there are few exceptions to the </coughbullstahem> 'rule'.

I had mine done not too long ago (OEM) by a local fitter my insurance were happy to use.

No re-calibration needed, no issues.
