As above - went in to town centre - was dead..plenty of single yellows available to park but there was a disabled bay that provided a safer parking spot so I parked there. It was 8.30pm and no one was around. Checked the road signs which said parking restrictions from 9am-6am Monday to Saturday. It was Saturday!

Contested the ticket but they threw it out and said I should not have parked in the disabled bay at any time and that restrictions for the disabled bay are not necessary as it's 24/7 for the use of disabled people and that the restrictions were for the parking bays (which were mostly taken on the day but one or two were available) and not the disabled bay.

I simply parked there as it was a better and safer spot to park my car frown

Seriously? You can only park in one with a disabled badge, I thought it was common knowledge.

You parked in a disabled bay. Got a ticket, rightly.

The end.

Local leisure centre always has a great many empty disabled spaces, only a third are ever used on a Thursday night for disabled swimming. Other times people park on them, mainly because their are a ridiculous amount and they won't be used. Personally wouldn't try it on a road bay though.

Dunno, I'd check the signage carefully, but it sounds like you may be in the wrong. In our town centre the majority of the disabled bays are only reserved 9am-6pm, but one or two are disabled only 24/7. If it's a council CEO ticket I'd assume they know the difference.

Where is the disabled person supposed to park while you're parking in a safer place for your car?

Check the law and contest it at the appeal if appropriate. Councils throw everything out as it suits them to do no work in the first instance. They only get in to it when a 3rd party shows some interest.

Maybe I've never looked close enough, but I've always assumed disabled bays were only for the use of blue badge holders - I can't recall ever seeing that applying for limited hours.

They've got a curfew on disabled people where I live. So, it would be OK.

They don't really. I'm taking the piss.

Think the OP's got his answer! smile

Are you genuinely looking for sympathy, or for somebody to tell you that you were right and the parking bods were wrong?

OP are you disabled? If not, I think perhaps you ought to consider more carefully where you park in future.

I thought it was ok if you had children too?

At least that is the impression I get from car parks I've used locally.

Did you not think that disabled people might like to damage your car, as you are not disabled?
