You think the mk3 is bad. There's a mk2 up for £30k on autotrader (not a rs500)
That's £5k over New list for a 7 year old focus..

True - mine's in fairly good nick, I have probably lost the cost of the VAT and maybe a couple of grand on it, worse case.

Not that I'm complaining.

Would love to know if all the overpriced ones are actually selling.
No. that's why there are loads of overpriced ones for sale smile

as for the MK2 one for 30k ! people moan at Japanese cars for being plastic. don't think I have been in a car that was as badly put together than one of those. the fit / finish was terrible on it. IMO

I always loved the look of the MK2 (I know, I know!) but I just couldn't spend that sort of money on a FWD hatchback.

One went through the auctions at Blackbushe yesterday with <500 miles on. Made I think £2k over list.

No sure I agree with this. She's had to pay out more than double the amount upfront (a new base focus can be had for about £13k) and in 10 years time if the base model is only worth £1k the RS will need to be worth £20k+, which I very much doubt once production starts to catch up with demand.

So you've never bought a new car (on indeed new anything) in your life then?

Is it just me that thinks by any measure, let alone list price, that £40k is a lot of money for a hot hatch?

You could buy an awful lot of much more fun cars for £40k

Pfft, rich people stealing cars intended for normal people and driving up the prices again. Nothing new. bds.

I guess from a value proposition these super hatch's' for a lot of people make a lot of sense and are worth more than a traditional 2 seater sports car. Add to the fact that saloon / estate market is now up at the 50k+ Focus RS, Golf R's start to make sense

I've driven quite a few cars.

What would be more fun for £40k and come with a factory warranty?

The Rs is lots of fun.

I know the MK2 held it's value, I used to wonder if it was due to small production numbers. Will the MK3 go the same way as it will be the same UK allocation roughly?

ETA: After looking on Focus forums it appears to be 12,500 MK2's.

I'm really not entirely shocked by that at all although for me personally, if I had nearly £40k to spend it wouldn't be on a hot hatch. I know that's essentially a different discussion but a Focus RS at £39k completely defeats the point it being a hot hatch!

Putting image to one side there's a C63 on Autotrader for £37k with under £10k on the clock.

I suppose it's supply and demand, if people are prepared to pay this much money for a car of this nature then so be it. If it makes them happy fair enough but I've seen plenty of these about and it's a lot for a modified Focus.
