Think it looks great, modern and fresh but much classier than the dreado looking Q5/7 cayenne and x5. The huge weight saving will make it a vastly superior car to the old one in terms of dynamics but its the same price as the old one; not mentioning all the great news toys on it!
If the looks had not changed from the old one everyone on PH would be moaning about how old it looks FFS!
What great new toys? It's the same stuff they charged me a fortune to put on my D4. You'd think that as the 'technology' side of things progressed, they'd put more of it on their cars as standard - you know, like the 'non-premium' Japanese makers do. Having left Landrover for Subaru, I can't see myself going back for a long long time.

1.5k for adaptive cruise? Manual adjusting and non-memory seats on all but the top spec? is this 1990? JLR - Spec the cars properly! bump up the price if you must but at least people won't feel like you are taking the piss with your 'options'! It probably costs them more to manufacture the poxy manual seat adjusters than the electric ones. And memory? really cutting edge stuff there. Imaging a microchip that knows where you like your seat and mirrors. Real white-mans magic stuff that, it's got to be worth a grand or so. FFS

Don't get me started on the tailgate. Grrr

Does the standard model have a centre diff lock, how about rear diff lock which is available as an option on D3/4?
It would appear that the centre diff lock (part of the transfer box) is standard but the active rear one is an option.
If the rear diff lock will still be an option, would it be the same "automatic" rear diff lock or there will be a switch to make the choice yourself?

Employee here who's been working with these for quite a while now...

The 'flap' at the back end does indeed take the place of the split gate and is a configurable option. You get a whole load of stowage room in a tray underneath the load floor (behind the 'flap'). It'll deploy on button press - so it will still retain your luggage on opening the bootlid. You do end up with the benefit of a larger overhang/cover should you be picnicking in the rain, while still having somewhere to sit away from the back face of the bumper. I guess a trade off of this though is you need a bit more space to open it when parked close to something at the back, but as all of LR's boot lids are plastic these days anyway it helps keep the whole system lighter weight and easier to function. Plus trying to get L405's split electric gate to work correctly at launch was an absolute mare. It's a whole lot easier to manufacture this way.

Should probably also say these are my opinions and not those of the company...
Thansk for clarifying as I have also seen a complicated seat arrangement that comes out the boot floor which woudl'nt work with a shoot box or other stuff in the boot.

The other option is this flap..

However this doesn't look very big and you'll get the back of your legs dirty if you sit on it...

Not convinced it is a better design at all, really don't like the fact they all have come out of the same Jelly mould, Evoque, RRS RRFF Disco Sport and Disco.. They are all much the same.

Just been looking round the site and I must say they REALLY have fked it up... it Looks identical to the disco sport just different tail lights and it's been on the photocopier...

If I was buying that sort of car, and to be honest I am I have a Macan coming next month OK a bit smaller I'd just buy the RRS as it is a much better resolved design. However I'm then branded a property developer wker in one of those (I am) so I don't want one.

The Disco didn't brand you the new one will so on that basis I'm out..

Even Subaru might be an option or the new Volvo...

Glad I chopped my D4 in for a new D4 this year, that really does not look good at all. Will have a poke around one in a dealers soon but FFRR for me next I think.

Ha ha, that's why I got the new D4 this year....it's a commercial as I was very confident they would not do a commercial D5. Even if they did I couldn't bring myself to drive something that looks that bad!

When the D3 came out I asked about a commercial one at a dealer and was told they wouldn't be doing one.

So I wouldn't listen to anyone saying there wont be a D5 commercial.

And I don't think it looks that bad.

(I also asked Jaguar about an estate XF when it was launched and told no to that as well...)

I've no doubt this new D5 will drive a lot better (by that I mean 'more like a car') than my current 2015 D4 but who on Earth actually enjoys the way even the best SUVs drive anyway? It's not like they're fun to drive from a sporting sense - some are just less wallowy than others. So the way it drives wouldn't see me change the D4.

The way it looks is fine - a bit too much 'fashion statement' but not enough to put me off.

The tech is probably the biggest motivation for me to change, but as mentioned above, LRs base equipment specification is dreadful and once you get to an acceptable level it becomes a very expensive car indeed. They also seem to be years behind other companies and tech that costs a few hundred on a Skoda or VW costs thousands on the Disco.

Also, I have doubts that the entertainment system will actually do what people want it to do in 2016 - things like being able to play YouTube from my phone onto the rear seat entertainment or playing a video from my phone onto it. Or being able to choose my navigation app and be able to download Waze. Or have Apple Music as an app on the screen. I assume it'll be the same or similar to the crap that's in Discovery Sports?

That being said, despite some disappointments, I've no doubt a D5 will replace my D4 at some point but there's nothing here that makes me want to rush out and order one immediately.

I find myself disliking LR products more and more. I feel they (for it is a 'they', as they're all the bleeding same) look chintzy and chavvy, will/are already dating quickly (JLR seem very adept at doing this), and of course they will generally be a nightmare to own, reliability-wise.

The wife wants to go back to a 4x4 for her next car, having had a brief 'fling' with an MCS Cabrio, but I won't be bothering with the LR dealership when we start looking next week.

Had an XF and am now on my second Disco and have had no issues with any of them. Did 40,000 miles in the XF, 26,000 in the old Disco in 18 months and am currently on 13,000 miles in my 6 month old Disco. Not even a squeak or rattle in any of them. Guess I've been lucky?

Regret it's off my list as they've persisted with the incredibly annoying and unintuitive rising gear knob
This stood out for me. I've driven a number of cars and the knob on the XF never bothered me (never really gave it any thought), I actually like it as it allows for very swift reverse/forward gear changes and eliminates the big old stick in the middle.

I find it odd that someone could find it annoying, but I'm completely stumped by the fact that someone would dismiss a car based on it?

That said, this SUV is not my cup of tea, I don't mind the looks as very few in this class manage to look "good". The Macan and the F-pace look ok, but they're a good bit smaller iirc.

That numberplate position, as a nod to the previous version, looks completely naf. We have huge plates in the EU though so good chance it's centered over here biggrin.

bks. Worked for Ford/PAG, had numerous LRs as company cars, and each and every one had one problem or another. Had a D3, was great when it worked, but nearly always something wrong with it. Friend has a late D4 and RRS Supercharged - both have had many problems, and frequently back at the local dealer.

I've no axe to grind, it's unfortunate and no secret that LR products in the main are pretty poor when it comes to reliability
