I half bet this will turn out to be 4wd. Did anyone actually look at the underside?
It's pretty bloody low so that might not be easy, it's likely covered in plastic too - and some bod n a suit might take umbrage at folk rolling around on the floor.

What was sold to us as a VTi was sold elsewhere as an SiR...

And what about the EK SiR?

Wasn't a Type R, neither was the EG SiR in my opinion. They chose not to brand an EG as a Type R, the brand was around at that time.

EG's have never had a Type R variant, simple as that.

I bet the middle red exhaust is actuated by a butterfly valve when R mode is selected.

Honda have seemingly talked about it re capturing "the record", IE the Ring FWD laptime, so I don't believe for a second that this will be anything other than FWD.

FWD, 335bhp and retain the manual box.

It was far more a Type R than the EP3 ever was, especially the rubbish EP3 sold in the UK...I owned both FYI, as well as two EKs.

I was going to be looking into buying a near new Type R in the next couple of years and I did some googling to see if there would be a Mugen FK2 and well I found a load of spy shots of this protype instead. From what I read its apparently the same engine and drive-train from the FK2 but just a new body that will be universal.

I might hold off buying until this is out as I would like to see the differences and if I don't like it then the FK's should have dropped in price.

used to love Type R's, but now......sorry, they have simply gone far too bonkers with it. the whole idea of the Type R used to be cheap power-200hp for 16k- but now honda has stolen the aventador SV's bodykit and plonked it on the civic. the current one is bad enough, but this one.....hurlshoot

Ah, you must be right as you've owned a few.

I had two EK4's, one EG6, two del sols (one with a B18C4), I've currently owned 4 EP3's, an ATR and a 5th gen lude.

The hate for the EP3 (especially the 'rubbish' UKDM model) is completely unjustified.

Comparing UKDM with JDM models is unfair also, in the history of Civic models they've also had the better deal in Japan.

But anyway, new model looks interesting, chatter seems to indicate 4WD, decent power and possibility of a 'drift' style function ala Focus RS.

I also meant to mention that I saw the new Civic testing at Millbrook back in July, unfortunately just low speed and fully camo'd but you could see those rear vents quite clearly, they do look a bit odd!

How to make the looks of the current ugly model easier to swallow. Make the next one even uglier. FFS Honda.
