They're great cars. My friend (who does my tuning) has built a 440+ bhp one. Looks totally stock, runs low 12s all day.
Could do a high 11 if he turned his air con off and wasn't heatsoaked lol

Looks and sounds totally standard.

I've taken the beast (on my profile) up the Pod but it wasn't a great day, rained all morning and then managed to get a couple of runs in before having to drive home.. great fun, but cold road tyres on cold slightly damp tarmac and an agricultural 5 speed (T5) manual box didn't help things.. plus my driving talent isn't overly awesome so we generated a bit more wheel spin and slidey sideways off the line than was required In the right hands with sticky tyres and a dry strip though she should comfortably run mid-high elevens, but I doubt she'll ever do it with me behind the wheel

You should record it lol
This diesel vs petrol amuses me a bit... in the end it's about power and about how it's delivered. If you have more power get the petrol in the right powerband/gear and you don't need to worry with diesels.
Off course there are very fast diesels so perhaps trying to keep up with a 335d with a stock golf gti may not be possible.
I prefer petrol but also have diesel cars.

Er, 'scuse my ignorance, what does POS stand for? I work in an industry where acronyms are rife, but POS is a new one on me Get a real car.
And... you make mention of a 'real car'........ is this simply petrol rather than diesel or is a 'real car' something else again? Very interested to know what constitutes a 'real car' if it's something other than the fuel type it burns
Thanks,
Chilli...

I get that. However....A long time ago I had a turboed VR6 Corrado (hence my username), which had all the shiney bits on it. Huge AP Racing brakes, the best tyres available in 17", the best KW coilovers available (at the time), chassis bracing.....everything. That thing was nuts, but it couldn't stop. Sure, it felt like it could stop but believe me, not many cars can deploy immense stopping power like a 911 can. It's a lot more than just uprated calipers and discs. The 911's chassis is just setup way way better for that (and a good deal more) than a Golf will ever be.
Even my mate's old 993 stopped way better than my Corrado did. Way better.
I think this is also partially down to the amount of flex in the suspension components/axles etc. Apparently Porsches are particularly good at not deforming and maintaining rigidity, and this means that a lot more of the braking force is successfully transmitted to the ground.Even my mate's old 993 stopped way better than my Corrado did. Way better.

Probably slower than my pos!
By the way they're a whole 1 second quicker than your VW in standard form, my CLK55 has run 12.4's lol

I prefer petrols generally but dont want to rule anything out, basically you dont have to pick a fuel, I dont get the hate for diesels, but neither do I get the "For a diesel" suffix like they are the plucky underdog, a 535D is like 40 grand, turbodiesels are generally very effective.
Diesels are just the best option in certain types of vehicle, anything heavy, unless you can run to a massive petrol engine, which most cant.
You dont have to be faster than anyone else, it is interesting to compare but it never actually matters, sometimes think blokes do it as it is frowned on to measure our willies in public.

I don't think I've had any trouble shaking any diesel car (including remapped ones) only 280ish bhp and 279ftlb from my turbo petrol as well...soon to be a tad more with a couple of bolt on bits
What about a 313bho diesel with 480ftlb?Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
