Not bothered mapping it, in real world driving it's quick enough. That said, how much difference does a remap make? ears

I like the short power band of diesels. I say that as not infrequently, a car or van will suddenly plant their foot & leap forward urgently when they see me overtaking (I overtake everything). It makes me smile when I see their momentum suddenly drop off as the mugs have to change gear while I sail past smile
My 50d X5 doesn't run out of puff until it reaches 6000 rpm (or so), doesnt have a short power band and the gears stay near the red line As long as I've got my foot flat to the floor.

2500kg, 0-60 in 5.something and limited to 155mph, so not bad for an old heavy smoker.

Three turbos make my Diesel engine go on and on and on and on wink

Still don't understand why you'd want to go fast in something that sounds crap. Not when there are plenty of good petrol engines out there. Not even like there's a saving in fuel when you thrash them.

I dont own a diesel, but i have had one in the past. My diesel was fairly quiet and actually sounded better than the MK5 GTI that it replaced.

You do use more fuel when pushing on in the same way that you use more fuel when pushing on in a petrol, so you still get better mpg than a petrol.

I don't.

I've just moved from an F10 M5 to a Diesel and I'm happy with my decision. More space, more relaxed and possibly dare I say it more comfortable. Even when I'm thrashing it I'm getting mid-twenties and over 40 on a run.

You really don't want to drive an X5 fast, but you can when you want to yes but you just don't.

I used to own a 4.8iS X5 and that sounded lovely...........

Shame it was a st car, for me noise isn't everything!

Mine's double glazed. It's just like being on a bloody quick and very quiet sofa. biggrin

I bought mine to overtake lorries on A roads, it does that really really well. It also uses less juice than my old six cylinder BMW.

It makes a world of difference... mine was 400bhp and 650ftlb. The torque shove was intoxicating. Didnt matter what gear u were in lol

Went do people go on about the nose so much? Cars these days are fairly well sounds proofed. The wind and tyre noise are far more noticable in mine than the engine nose

It was already mapped when i bought it.

I had a stock one for a while too. Then bought a facelift mapped one. The difference is quite alarming.

For alarming you mean pleasant? It doesn't *need* circa 50% more torque but that'd rip your face off while still looking sedate biggrin

Yes. It has a short power band. It's a diesel.

Because they either owned a st diesel a long time ago or think diesels sound like Taxis black cabs as they have experience or those - however as you rightly say you simply don't hear very much.

I've only owned 6 cylinder diesels which do sound markedly better, also in normal driving you cannot hear it - when pushing on hard you get a pleasing growl nothing unpleasant sure a V8 RS6 is way better on the noise front but it's a different proposition.

What did you miss about the 'or so'?

Sorry if I was out slightly whilst posting in doors rather than being in front of the dash..... wink

What did you miss about rounding and 5400 being closer to 5k than 6k?

I'm not doubting they are effective day to day but the way some are gushing implies these things should be driven flat out with the windows down so you can both enjoy the clatter and cancer inducing smell. For example my old A8 4.2 had petrol V8 and I loved to open it up on the odd occasion because it sounded nice. Cannot imagine doing the same with a diesel as it's just so unrewarding to do so. Guess we are all different.

Twin turbo conversion surely?

It's not unheard of in Germany
