If the RS3 will be putting out 400bhp, i'm quite excited by the prospect of the next-gen RS4, which one presumes should be a decent step up in power again.
I heard a rumour today that the RS4 is going saloon again for the next version. I would expect a big price bump tho, otherwise the 3 & 4 will step on each others' toes surely?PhantomPH said:
I think I may be in the minority here, but my understanding of the RS3 saloon, is not for it to be a track monster. I thought it was supposed to be a very fast, comfortable daily driver that was just as much at home in traffic and bumpy B-roads, as it was on a smooth open motorway??
In the same way that I wouldn't bemoan a Nintendo Wii for not being as good as a gaming PC...I mean, they both play games, right?
As a genuine potential customer, I can say right now that I would NOT buy the RS3 if it was a no-compromise, super-stiff, oversteering track machine....or looked like some chavved up effort like the Civic Type R. I'm here to tell you, that once you get past a certain age and 90% of your journeys are commuting; having a comfortable, well-built, smart-looking car that can rip a hole in the tarmac when you want to overtake, is really all you need from your daily driver.
And that's what this is supposed to be - a daily driver.
Refinement and ride quality need not be compromised to improve handling. - C63s, M3/4s and RS4s aren't overly harsh when compared to RS3s (OK, none of these have a magic carpet ride but they're hardly track car harsh) but they all manage to handle better than anything with Haldex. In the same way that I wouldn't bemoan a Nintendo Wii for not being as good as a gaming PC...I mean, they both play games, right?

I don't understand why journalists refer to it as Quattro GmbH. Would you say that you have an Apple Inc. iPhone or a JVC Kenwood Corp. television?
What about a Rolex SA watch?
But it's a separate company, building cars in a different location. Even the VIN numbers are different, starting with a 'WUA' instead of a regular Audi's 'WAU'What about a Rolex SA watch?

I get what you are saying but a daily driver... you know that's not how Audi will promote the car at all. I suspect it will be just as firm riding like the TTS/RS, A3 and RS3. Before Sport Mode!In the same way that I wouldn't bemoan a Nintendo Wii for not being as good as a gaming PC...I mean, they both play games, right?

What difference does that make to my question?I'm basically asking why journalists always seem to refer to Quattro as Quattro Ltd. while other companies make do without their status as a business entity being mentioned.

If Apple had a separate company called iPhone Inc, and someone wanted to talk about that company they would call it "iPhone Inc". This would therefore differentiate from iPhone the product
Edit to add: Actually I do kind of see your point re Rolex, but I think with the name "quattro" the distinction is less clear cut, especially as it's not a particularly well known manufacturing company

RS3 Saloon looked interesting there for a second, until I realised it's basically M3 money. Not far off the power of the standard M3 and perhaps quicker in real life, but still RS3 or M3? No contest imo.
Yes it would be easy to pick the rs3 over the mess that is the m3LOL at the M3 mess comments, but I quite like the idea of the RS3 saloon pity it hasn't got the flares of the current M3.
I love the RWD nature of the M3 but the traction can be an issue when pressing on I'd like a bit more and the RS3 would give that but I have a suspicion that it will feel front wheel biased on turn in and I love the way the F80 darts in to a corner and then leans on the rear and pushes you through a corner.
The RS3 will be a weapon though no doubt.

lets not forget the RS3 is 1/2 series sized so its natural BMW rival is the M2I love the RWD nature of the M3 but the traction can be an issue when pressing on I'd like a bit more and the RS3 would give that but I have a suspicion that it will feel front wheel biased on turn in and I love the way the F80 darts in to a corner and then leans on the rear and pushes you through a corner.

the new RS4 should be pretty special with its triturbo V6, and hopefully sculpted wings
