Could a £200 car have any more than £200 worth of damage ?
Obviously they can - which is why they write them off as they are uneconomical to repair.

EG a new door and paint would be circa £400 whether it's a £10k Mondeo or a £100 Mondeo

I've used askmid to get insurance details of a driver before

£4 per enquiry and put as much details about the driver and car in as possible. They'll get back to you within 2 working days.

Well worth checking asap - if it looks like they're not insured you really need to call the copse.

Could have been worse, these hedges are often very gated.

I think there's probably some sense in asking your own home insurer how it normally works.

It can't be uncommon this - idiots crash into private property all the time.

Since there's two of these dheads involved, for a low hassle solution I'd prefer to have someone else write legal letters to both car insurers to the effect that you don't care which of them pays up, so long as the damages are paid quickly.

Unsure how something so mundane causes such hilarity but whatever floats your boat.

The one car is still there - it's a £200 mondeo which now has around £2k of damage to it so I presume I'm OK to remove it as it's already worth -£1800
Don't move it. Just send the owner a letter saying the storage cost is £200 a day

  1. seriousmode claim from either or both drivers. Even if it's a 50:50 it shouldn't affect your recovery - one pays and requests contribution from the other.
Loving the puns though

I believe most insurers have a hedge fund available for such occurrences
But they do trim them back in the autumn, so this could be a difficult time of year.

On a more serious note a lady in the next village from me woke up one Saturday morning to find a car smashed into a tree in her garden. The guy was over the DD limit and went straight on at a bend and hit head on..

He was in the car dead when she found it.
She didn't hear a car hitting her tree hard enough to kill someone?

She must sleep like the dead.
There's a subtle irony here

Got a new door for my partner's Focue for £30 off ebay. Was quite chuffed, same colour and just took 2 hours work to swap all the bits over. Even fixed the door lock issue on the central locking!

That was just an example but insurers tend to use new parts !

Your example demonstrates why there are so many Cat C/D vehicles on the road.

My uncle had a lorry carrying a JCB digger amongst other constructiony things enter his property through the fence from the nearby road after crashing. Road was closed, trucks were removed, bit of road re tarmacd. Nobody paid for new fence.

Uncle built deep concrete base going 2M underground and 1M above ground then sunk super thick RSJ's sticking out the top of the concrete about 9ft in the air, then covered it all over from the roadside with a normal looking wooden garden fence. If anyone crashes into it they will die but the fence will be fine and the house won't need any repairs again. smile

Local old bloke has just done the same thing, his fence and the hedge behind it have always been prime spots every winter for people ending up in his garden (dodgy corner, always slippy), a couple of months back a corsa entered his garden, now instead of a hedge there is 2 of those big motorway concrete barriers in its place.
