Buying First Home - Durham/Hartlepool
Discussion
I'm looking to buy my first home somewhere around the Durham/Hartlepool area due to moving up there for work. What I'm seeing when I look at Rightmove are lots of houses that are struggling to sell and have been advertised for over a year.
I'm obviously reluctant to buy in an area that is going to make it difficult to sell (due to reputation). Does anyone know of any areas around Durham that are viewed as being 'nice' and therefore won't present too many problems when the time comes to sell?
I'm only looking for a 2 bed semi or end terrace, approx £100k.

Hi
I'm from Hartlepool but escaped a few years ago. Most of the traditional type terraces, which were once in nice areas, are now in dodgy areas and most of the traditional semis are typically three bedroom.
The obvious area is probably Bishop Cuthbert which is a huge development on the north side of town so handy for the A19. There are new build two bedroom houses there and probably older ones for sale also.

There are various places in and around the Durham / Hartlepool area that are very nice but it' depends on your budget.
Places to consider off the top of my head and without knowing more requirements are:
Castle Eden
Sedgefield
Wynyard
Wolviston village
Shincliffe village
Coxhoe
Parts of Peterlee
Anywhere in Durham city
Belmont
Sherburn village
Shadforth

Im from Hartlepool and there are good areas and some i certainly would not look at.
Im from the north of the town and would be looking at that price around the hart station area or bishop Cuthbert there are plenty of good areas it is a better town than generally made out.

Shincliffe Village is nice (but try to avoid my ex.), but I doubt you'll get the house you want for the price you want there.Places to consider off the top of my head and without knowing more requirements are:

Durham City is nice too, but avoid Newton Hall and Gilesate Moor. Also depending on the area you could find yourself next door to lots of students, and they tend to keep odd hours.
