Re parking assist ... would it be feasible to have sill-mounted thingies like the parking assist bumper-mounted thingies to sound off as you approach closer and closer to a kerb to help stop you kerbing your shiny alloy wheels?

If you have electric mirrors, just angle your nearside one down.

Easy peasy.

(If you haven't, you're buggered)

Wait for the standard PH answer:

"What? You must be a useless driver. I've never kerbed an alloy in 30 years of driving."

It's been about for yrs. I first saw it on an Audi, cameras under the mirrors & bumpers produce a complete image on a screen.

Definately. I've never had reversing sensors or any of that twaddle, lol. Mind you, I don't have facebook in my car either.

I just lower one of my side mirrors.

I'm used to really small cars like a fiesta, my Audi a3 is the first car I've ever wanted parking sensors.

You're aware of what an Audi A3 is right?

Who kerbs alloys? I handbrake turn into every space!

Genuinely not kerbed an alloy on the existing car, and not kerbed an alloy for a while when sober.

Girlfriend doesn't seem to be too bad either. However a lad at work, his missus kerbed the alloys on the car he bought for her within a fortnight. :O

My wife's car has it. The wheels are a mess nonetheless.

If kerbing assist is as accurate as park assist it will err on the side of caution and we will all be parked two feet away from the kerb

Are there any cars/vans in production that dont actually come with electric mirrors?

I would expect even the most basic car to come with them these days?

My old e46 M3 had mirrors that automatically tilted when reversing. Very convenient. I still managed to curb a wheel once though. Nothing can compensate for being an idiotsmile

Front left is generally the most kerbed wheel. How's a mirror going to look at that one?
