I am trying to register a Citroën AX in the UK which I bought from Portugal. I sent all the details (vin ect..) to the dvla and they got back to me saying the registration certificate for the car is not acceptable to prove the date of manufacture. They say evidence must come from the vehicle manufacturer or if not possible then from an owners club. I have no idea why a statement from an owners club would be a more reliable source than the registration certificate but if that's what they want..

Has anyone had experience of acquiring the proof of manufacture date on an import? I have no idea where to start with contacting Citroën about it!

Cheers

That sounds very odd - are you sure you filled in the paperwork correctly? - I registered my Trabi using the Hungarian V5 equivalent and not a lot else.

Yes filled in all relevant parts on the V55 form , and other than having to make a 'nova' notification (which seems to be a ball ache too!) they haven't said I have missed anything else.

Isn't there usually something called a Certificate of Conformity which DVLA would want to see? Obtained from the original supplying dealer IIRC.

Won't be needed as an AX is definitely going to be more than 10 years old.

For something that age, you only need a couple of documents - the NOVA declaration and foreign registration document.

I was amazed at just how easy the process was.

Surely the VIN number tells you the year a car was manufactured? Can you just get DVLA to use the start of that year?

The Portuguese reg doc includes the first reg date on it? If so, it should be good. It's not just a new-keeper slip of some kind, is it?

CitUK will point you to the Conservatoire for a dating certificate - http://www.citroen.co.uk/about-citroen/our-brand/h... Otherwise, the Citroen Car Club - www.CitroenCarClub.org.uk - are on DVLA's V762 list and can issue dating certificates.

Whenever I've registered an import I've had to send the logbook from the country I've bought the car from. They've always used the date of first registration from there as date of manufacture

did you write 'over 10 years old' on the V55/5 ? and SVA 'exempt' ? the clerk may have got it wrong and looking for a CoC in addition. Phone them up and tell them to double check the Portuguese logbook for 1st registration date.

Thanks for the info all- ill look at the Citroen car club regardng the date. Yes I put over 10 years old on the V55 o they shouldn't think its a new car! The portugese reg slip does have the first registered date on it which is why I thought it would be good enough.. well I may phone them up also and see what they say but in their letter they seemed pretty explicit it was not valid proof..rotate

What did you put for the date of manufacture?

I recall using the same date as the date of registration and it went straight through.

The portugese reg slip...
Ah. That's probably your problem. It should be the full reg cert - but I don't know how Portugal does it or what they need sending back to de-reg.

I used the date of first registration which is the only date on the registration certificate. Also has the national homologation number on theresmile(AX Sport)
