Marillion - F.E.A.R
Discussion
It's an incredibly complex and multi-layered album. If you like "songs" such as Sugar Mice or Fantastic Place or Easter, you'll find it very difficult to "get". BUT, if you understand an album like Brave, and you listen to F.E.A.R. at least three times, the sheer musical beauty of this work will reveal itself. Marillion may very well never record another album; F.E.A.R. shows the guys doing exactly what they want - no compromises, no commercial constraints and all the better for it!
It's probably one for the long time fans (yes, I'm one) but I'd put it in the "amazing music" category, no doubt. You WILL need repeat listens however.

Got this yesterday following your post so thanks for reminding me.
I love it already, The Gold is an outstanding track and this for me is classic Marillion. I have been a big fan since marbles which I thought was fantastic.
Their longest tracks are their best work in my opinion, Gaza, Montréal, This Strange Engine et al are twisting story tales and Steve Hogarths voice is outstanding.
Looking forward to listening more, thanks again for bringing to my attention.

I've been a fan for virtually all of my adult life, and was really looking forward to this album. The Gold and The Leavers are good, as has been mentioned. I loved Brave, so am not wedded to commercial songs, but found the whole album a bit ordinary and unremarkable. To be honest, I think that sums up much of their recent output.
Hopefully another few dozen listens will help - I'm seeing them in Cardiff in Dec.

Stumbled across this & downloaded from Spotify. Best album i've heard for ages, thanks!
I hadn't heard any of their stuff, apart from the obvious hits. Pleasantly surprised..
