Michelin all climate are not true all season they are summer plus get home winter tyres, and for the price a bit overrated as well, as not really great performers in all weathers.

I would look at Nokian Weatherproof, very good tyres. if you are buying all season don't skimp on price it is not worth as you just end up with a crap tyre in all seasons.

Absolutely not true, they're currently the best all season tyre for the south of the UK where we only see occasional snow and ice. Yes, the Nokian is better in the snow, but you're giving up a chunk of dry and wet braking for the rest of the year.

the thing is they don't market them as all season as I stated. I also ran 4 for 20k as well. My point was in regards to the op posting best all season not best summer with winter capabilities.

'Don’t be fooled into thinking this is another all-season tyre. Cross Climates are strictly labelled as summer rubber that borrow tread structure and compound chemistry from their winter counterparts.'

I found on icey very cold road, not snow very skittish and wandering behaviour. Also a bit numb. In the wet and rainy onditions my Pirelli CINTURATO P7 are a lot better. Which the reason I didn't but them again.

Not technically all season but unless your up in the north of Scotland surely some Uniroyal Rainsports (or rainexperts) would do you good all year around.
I was a cynic for many a year...

Last year I put four Vredestein Quatrac 4's on the Volvo (FWD, automatic T5 estate... tends to consume tyres!) and they've been excellent. No adverse effect in the dry / summer / heat and very good in the wet too. They come in to their own in the general sort of crappy, cold, miserable weather we suffer up here for 11 months of the year. Very good at dealing with water / slush and managed to get me out of Glen Lyon last winter in 6" of fresh snow without any drama. They seem to be wearing well given the mixed driving and the weight / power... fronts are at 5mm, rears at 6mm after 5000 miles though I did swap them front to rear recently.

Also recently bought Mrs Davie and Astra SRi and debated what tyres to run on it given the impending winter but eventually settled on Uniroyal Rainsport all round and thus far, they too have been very very good. Dry grip is excellent and the wet grip and even damp / greasy grip is superb. It seems very planted even at motorway speeds in heavy rain / water logged roads despite wearing 225 section tyres. It's only done 1500 miles on them so can't really comment on wear yet but they are said to be quite soft but hoping a combination of light car / low power and her delicate right foot should get reasonable mileage from them.

The Vredesteins came from Black Circles and the Rainsports came from Camskill.

Hope this helps!

As already suggested Uniroyal Rainsport 3's are IMHO the best all UK weather tyre for a decent price in the UK.

Let's say that 50% of the year it's dry, 48% of the year it's wet and 2% of the year it's icy/snow. Based on this you want a tyre that's good in the dry, great in the wet and adequate in the snow/ice.

For your size they ere £70 a corner from Camskill http://www.camskill.co.uk/m54b0s555p111660/Uniroya...

Another vote for Uniroyals Rainsports/Rainexperts
Superb tyre for the money

edited to add that the first few suggestions are clearly 'winter' not 'all season' tyres.

Another vote for Vredestein Quatrac 5 here.

They're marketed as an all-season tyres but have the 'mountain & snowflake' symbol signifying they meet the Canadian govt's guidelines for full winter use. Vred's advertising blurb makes mention of the tyre having a summer portion to its tread so I guess it is properly 'all season' rather than an out and out winter tyre.

Have them on my van and drive on white roads a lot in the winter up here in the Cairngorms and they have yet to disappoint. Well priced, too.

Very good in the dry and snow but not so hot in the wet apparently. For me with the amount of rain in the UK wet performance is the most important area for any tyre.

Keep in mind some manufacturers market the same tyre for different uses in different markets.

On my old Freelander 2 I had Nokian's which were a tyre in the UK but in the USA were sold as all-season, I even emailed Nokian to confirm that the compound was the same and they confirmed it's was just marketed differently.

Nokian are probably the best choice of available tyres. In the US we used Continental DWS which were amazing tyres, but unfortunately not available here.

Thanks for contibutions gents. I've been reading about each tyre in turn but I think, I'm going to stick with the Falken AS200s.

I appreciate that the more specialist "summer" tyres are very good, but I'm not convinced they're suitable for my needs.

Cheers!
