West Midlands must have bought a big economy bag of HADECS 3 cameras. Driving south on the M6 between Stafford and Birmingham they seemed to be attached to every piece of street furniture.

Photo is northbound when I was passenging, but you can see the cameras on both carriageways.

Do these work as an average speed camera or a regular speed camera?

These are on the M1 and on the M25 at various points... I've been through them at high 80's and no NIP's so far.

Never seen them flash other traffic so far either.

I wondered what they were, they're on the M42 SB J6 onwards too. Odd, the M42 has many cameras as it is unless they're updating them to a more modern camera?

Looks like they're aimed at the rear, which gives you time to spot them and slow down?

They are a digital speed camera which covers all lanes and don't flash... Not all are on yet and I think they are set at slightly higher threshold or most of the motorway would be nicked!

There are alot sprouting up though.

Just regular camera. 85 is pushing though even without them, too much risk now.

A hundred meters or so up the road are also a set of CCTV cameras IIRC, so if you can spot those you'd know these won't be far behind

This looks like a smart motorway to me? Which have speed cameras along them anyway?

They do flash. They are known as HADECS3. Mostly enforce temporary speed limit reductions but also known to enforce NSL on the M4 at Bristol (NIP proof was posted on here a while back). Soon to enforce red X closed lane driving too when they can get them to work properly.

Don't be too complacent about what sort of speed they might be set to trigger at. I recently got a NIP for doing 80 in a 70 (A12 dual carriageway), so not a lot of tolerance there.

Did the run up to leeds a while back - as said, Waze reports them all, but I was suprised how many of them there were. Sure will kill it for those making progress safely.

I can see that being a lower "limit" than a motorway though.

But these aren't on gantries, so no accompanying speed limit roundel on display.

I think it's about time for a national "no numberplates day" in protest at this sort of bullst!
