I had a mate when I was a student who used to buy and sell cars as a bit of a hobby. He always used to clock them. He bought a low mileage Mk3 Cortina and drove it for about 18 months. He then decided to move it on, so went through the usual process of removing the odometer to clock it, only to find a sticker on the back of it saying "Oh no, not again".
He's one of many who claimed that.

For the keyboard sleuths who rely on the condition of the steering wheel and the seats to give an idea as to whether mileage shown is representative of the car... I guess it's pretty easy to spot the car which has 232k on the clock and the one which has 152k....

Looks like CU14WYF the clocked Fiesta Zetec S needed a clutch at some point too - the second result on Google apart from this thread is an enquiry to a clutch place in Cardiff

I would say that's a near certainty, given that CU14WYF is no longer on the DLVA database but H7 SWX / H7SWX IS registered.

New ebay seller as well.

Surely with the modern long service schedules these days it must be very easy to clock and hide.

For example my transit has a service schedule of 2 years or 30K miles.

I could do 60K miles in the first 2 years, not bother servicing at 30K, then clock/ milage adjust wink back to 10K miles just before the second year, then service.

No one would know?............

Actually my internet sleuthing may be faulty. The original driving school advert put CU14WYF at 31/03/2014.

This latest advert shows a reg date of 28/03/2014.

Maybe they are different. Although a quick HPI will soon reveal whether H7SWX is the same car as CU14WYF.

So H7SWX (H7 SWX) is a Ford Fiesta Zetec S that has been clocked and was previously being sold as CU14 WYF? I hope nobody is fooled by this blatant fraudster

What happens when a dealer is found out to have clocked a car?? can the milage be reinstated back to what it was pre clocked then sold on?? If i bought a Merc Sclass for example that was still in its 3year warranty period and i found it was clocked would Mercedes wash there hands of it?? how to shift on a known clocked car??? I wonder if a lot end up abroad, nigeria maybe??

Generally when a car is part exchanged to a dealer or a car buying service the seller will often have to sign that the miles are correct. The dealer can then dispose of it into the trade with a "warranted" mileage. All cars at auction have either warranted, non warranted mileage (this is more common in repos) or incorrect which is supposed to give the buyers peace of mind.

Having in the past entered cars into auctions that have clearly been clocked (120k back to 40k for an example) it is easier to just tick incorrect mileage and it is up to the buyer what they do with it.

Nigeria?

Nahh some of them end up here in Ireland, Was amusing when the MOT checker came out first.... Nearly every second car for sale (Still on UK plates from 'Private' dealers') was clocked.

I seen a Mondeo with 140k. (Last MOT 270k)
