Personally love the roar of a TVR Straight Six 4 liter engine with the de-cat exhaust, however the best one is probably the engine of a Pagani Zonda when it goes over 5000 rpm. That's music to my ears!

Since this is the favourite car sound ever, not the favourite sounding car, what about the satisfying clunk of the door on a Rolls Royce closing.
Any particularly good horns? I like the ones with the rubber bulb.
Good point, the best car sound ever is probably when you have finished your drive, you get out of it and it sits there with pinking and cool down noises going on. Good times shared between you and your best pal. Never has the man and machine link been so close.

Then you get in the house and start washing up the dishes......

I still miss the sound of my old TVR 350i. It sounded epic.

My straight six TVR. ACT decats with Racing Green super sport bang cans on it. Loud enough to wake the dead over 4K RPM & scares old grannies when you lift off driving down the high street!

Its a bit annoying on long runs if you cruise over 75 mph but I guess thats what ear plugs are for !

Pair of Top Fuel dragsters leaving the line - no Youtube video will ever do it justice - a proper physical experience, rather than merely aural

As for road cars, has to be a 355 with a Tubi as it comes 'on-cam', or a big old cross-plane V8 at tickover with a lumpy cam, big carbs and short pipes

Lancia's Group B Delta S4. Somehow managed to mix high revs with supercharging and a turbo. It's not an especially attractive noise, just pure violence. Even sitting at idle on the starline it sounds like an alien spacecraft... YouTube it and enjoy

For me the it is a great sound as the sound of the Focus is the sound I hear when I drive that heap to work to earn the epic coin!

For a modern car it will be the V8 F-Type all day long for me:

For a classic car it will be the E-Type:

For me though most things with a V8 I can appreciate.

Ferrari FF on start up, and when getting hammered through the gears...virtually all Aston V8s, or a seemingly flat-out Lamborghini Jalpa going the other way on the M6 one night many years ago.
