Aston Martin Vulcan for me, amazing NA V12 at noise levels that render it unusable at most UK events!

Of cars I have owned my SL55, that sounded like a WW2 aircraft engine.

That V16 BRM thingy you see at Goodwood Revival. It makes a sound that's, well, elemental.. Not sure anything beats that.

Next to that, a McLaren M8.

Finally and controversially, a DTM tuned 190 Evo II like this.. it's just evil.

Ferrari F355, Lotus Evora 400 and the Lamborghini Diablo have to be my favourite road cars, that I've had the pleasure to hear.

The 355 I think sounds like the Angel Gabriel in an indulgent guitar solo, but the Lambo V12 sounds like someone just stepped on Satan's left bk with some high heels on.

Best sounding car I've ever heard is the BRM V16, indescribably wonderful, like a WW2 bomber. (Honourable mention, surprisingly: Giacomo Agostini's glorious MV Agusta.)

But, unforgiveable that, 4 pages into this thread, I think I'm the first person to mention the McLaren F1 V12.

I`m sorry but there are these that are my favourites ...ever...

Not sure which I prefer but listen to the F50LM when it comes past!

Make sure you have them both really loud!

a dirty V8, obviously, with some proper mechanical start up noise and a lumpy idle.

The kind of noise that precedes the invasion of a small country, I would expect.
Funny you mention invading small countries, I'm going to nominate standing behind a squadron of Challengers starting up and moving off as rather impressive.

The 787b on the front page is the obvious winner followed by this 4 rotor FD.

For non-rotors, the most recent best sounding car to me is the Lotus Evora 400. Watch the video below to see what I mean.

It's nowhere near my favourite but I think huge credit should go to Jaguar for both the V6 and V8 engines in the F-Type because they are ASTONISHINGLY noisy for modern road car engines

Not even sure how they're legal but damned glad they are...

There are tuned aftermarket exhausts on far more expensive cars which don't have a fraction of the 'holy st how loud is that' ;0

For me, it's the Matra V12 or a lumpy V8 idle
