No idea why people hate diesels so much.
Because they are driven by tightwads and give everybody Cancer, apart from that they are great wink

And quite a few petrol cars are driven by even bigger tightwads who only have one car, which has to do everything, in a sort of jack of all trades, master of none scenario! Their idea for a really great car would be a four seater F1 type. Wouldn't win any races though.

Absolutely, providing it's in a tractor or Transit van.

Not half as funny as not being able to spell brigade.

I have what I'd guess for some is a desirable diesel. Merc E350cdi estate. Fast-ish comfortable for long drives, big enough to fit in the family in and the dogs. But do you smile when you rev it or when you get a corner just right no. It's desirable for its given role not as I guess as a PH specific of desirable - great handling and great engine. Fortunately I also have a proper sports car for the PH desirable bit.

Its a very nice every day family car but desirable? No.

Yet if it had the AMG gear and a big V8 it would be.

That's fair enough a V8 would be great but you can't get an E63 with a tow bar (and easily correctly insured)!

It also doesn't put a smile on my face like my "sport car".

I have an X5 40D and its pretty good but I drove an X5 50D the other day and that is seriously good, I think they synthesize the sound in the cabin as well so even sounds quite roarty. Damn quick car across country.

His Merc is desirable to someone who wants a comfy fairly economical car. As has been said many times now, desirable doesn't have to be a big v8.

Yes, but in a large pickup truck where pulling heavy things is more satisfying than trying to drive it like a sports car.

I have the car in C form and I smile quite a bit on B-roads. It's got the AMG sport pack though and a set of Bilstein B8s.

Nothing major lacking, considering it is an all-rounder. The diesel sounds muted ofc, but it has good power and some of us like shifting a lot. smile

Large diesel pick-up truck you say? scratchchin

Here's my new (to me) diesel.

6.7 Turbo, 400hp, 860lb-ft.

It does about 23mpg (UK gallons) and manages to get out of it's own way fairly sharply for the giant barge that it is.

I'm going to chuck one of those Bullydog tuners on it when I get back for an extra 150hp or so.
Hilarity should ensue fairly quickly.

Quite a nice place to sit for a work truck
