To some people, yes it is.

I need a car that can carry 5 or six people and their luggage in relatively comfortable way, for long distances, where space, cruising at the posted limit and long range become the most important requirements. For those particular journeys a diesel becomes desirable, and a petrol car does not.
If I am driving alone or with one passenger, a petrol car becomes desirable.
Horses for courses. For some however, they have to harness their race horse to a cart, or have to put their Suffolk punch on a race course, neither situation of which is particularly desirable.

Yes it is for those who need or like this type of vehicle, and many do.
Ideal for a diesel engine. I would dread having to buy the same thing with a petrol engine, then stopping every few miles to fill it up

You can get the same truck with a 6.2 petrol V8.
385 hp & 405 ft-lbs.

Owners report them as getting about 12-15mpg.

I'm not sure why you would choose one with that engine as it's slower. less economical and has less towing capacity but you do see them about.

Nope, a diesel power curve has what's called torque backup...
Not heard of that one before. Is that what creates the diesel desire?
I thought it was like when you're creating a backup of your computer. At first it *appears* to be going quickly but then it takes ages and goes really slowly. wink
Diesels provide plenty of jerk , which is hard to differentiate from acceleration.
