Last year I went through the choosing A6, BMW 5, Jag, E conundrum.

The conclusion: there's bugger all difference between them and it comes down to small personnel preferences.
Autocar did say in that review I mentioned that it was impossible to pick winners and losers - it just depends what you want.

I think that's testament to the quality of the segment really - picking between the XF/5/E is all about personal preference and whether the car's character suits what you want. They're all extremely capable, well-specced cars which drive incredibly well.

Certainly rides/handles beautifully for such a big car but you do have to put up with a lot more rattles, some questionable materials and average build quality. Standard spec on them is quite poor also.

I had one on order as a new CC up until a week ago, but after having finally had an extended weekend test drive decided to cancel it. Nice car, but not sure I could live with it for 3-4 years based on my feeligs after 2 days.
Agree. I found the NVH obtrusive and discomforting. Simply too loud and harsh at speed, however it was a 20d which has a tractor engine. The materials didn't feel as premium either. The dampening on BMW 4/5 is much better. You're insulated but still get sufficient feel of the car.

I like the XE but the one thing I thought was really, really rubbish was when you open a front door and see that vast expanse of painted metal at the front......where there should be a few more inches of door trim. Compare this to the current C Class whose interior is really something.

Shame the current C Class looks 20 years old already.

Takes of a lot of effort to make it seem exciting...
