I think it felt pretty composed on my first trip on the motorway for a small car and pulled ok in 6th.
The exhaust note might get a bit tiring for long motorway commutes though.
Don't think my fuel economy will be good as it urges you to cane it constantly lol

Please do a comparison with the first gen swift sports
And the Ignis Sport too, would be particularly interested to see how the ride improves/doesn't over the generations.

I think it's a shame they are getting turbo engines, but the market rules.

I hope the new engine is just as strong as this one.

I just hope it retains its excellent induction sound and nice top end power delivery. Basically I hope for a miracle..

Interesting article, thanks for sharing.

I'm currently pondering selling my SSS for a newer version (currently in a '12 plate with 58k)- might be a good idea to get one of the last plates with the NA engine. I can't imagine the new turbo'd version to be as fun frown

I'm very tempted to buy one of these have been for test drive twice.

I can get a brand new non registered one for £13,085

I'm really not sure what to do it's not very flash for the lady's and has a girly image I suppos but it's such fun and seems to be a financially good idea.

Any blokes got them what are your views

Aw nuts. Another gushing thread about the Swift. These things keep calling to me.

We're after something for the wife to dart about in during the week so I thought I'd take the opportunity to get something fun. I've spent the last couple of months Focus STs and Civic Type Rs but the Swift keeps popping into my consciousness, seemingly offering some MX-5 style frolics.

I had a look this morning as it happens and there doesn't seem to be many about. frown

You're the first I've seen to suggest the SSS has a girly image. Most people don't know what it is, so tend to take it at face value rather than apply any brand prejudices. Most people (including the ladies) seem to approve of it, and it doesn't seem to attract the chav comments that the warm and hot Fiestas do.

I'm very happy with mine (but only done 4.5k miles so far). It's very responsive to all of the major controls, quick enough, and fun at low speeds. The main objective criticism would be the small boot. If I was doing a lot of motorway work I'd want something a bit quieter. Other than that, it's hard to fault it.

There are 87 of the current generation from ~£6k on the Suzuki used car locator.

Gweaver I may have labels it myself I really fancy one I've been and looked at loads of stuf in 14k budget,

The seat Ibiza although a bigger boot did nothing for me and I just feel that n my eyes a proper engine rather than mega small and turbo is a better bet for huge mileage and no issues.

May I ask how old are you and what you most use it for. Also what's the performance like in real world ?

Come Christmas I'll have had my 14 plate Sport for two years so it's getting near time for a change, the new Turbo Sport is the top of my list my main concern is turbo lag hopefully Suzuki's vast knowledge in building powerful bike engines will produce something special for the Sport.

Plan B is buying new current model Sport if the turbo is a dog there will be plenty run out deals to clear old stock.

The M16A in the Swift does have a good reputation for reliability, certainly not as vulnerable to death by coolant loss as the Ford Ecoboost and without the various issues that I've heard plague some of the VW 1.4 engines.

Late 30's, domestic use, no commuting. Mostly local journeys on mixed roads, with the occasional longer motorway run. It's pretty much ideal for my use. Currently averaging 41mpg (brim to brim - the on board computer lies). For the mileage I'm doing I should have bought a V8 though..

Power seems to be restricted until the engine has a little bit of warmth in it, it's more noticeable in cold weather for the first 1/2 mile or so - worth bearing in mind if you're going for a winter test drive.

I've not found it wanting for performance - there's enough power to take most of the stress out of entering busy roundabouts, overtaking and merging onto motorways, but not so much that you reach naughty speeds too quickly. It sounds good too, particularly in the mid-range.
It doesn't have loads of grunt at motorway speeds in sixth, but it's not a chore to grab fifth or fourth on the rare occasions when a bit more go is needed. Third is quite short, so ideal for overtaking on A/B roads.
The general suspicion is that the Swift Sport accelerates faster than Suzuki claim, and I'd agree with that. I came from a Rover 200vi (143bhp, 1060kg), and the Swift (134bhp, 1045kg) doesn't feel that far off. It won't set your pants on fire like a full fat turbo hot hatch, but I think it compares very favourably with warm hatches like the Fiesta Zetec-S/ST-Line/Red/Black & Corsa Red/Black.
