RE: Aston Martin DB11 vs. Porsche 911 Turbo S
Discussion
It saddens me to say as a generally patriotic sort of chap, that I actually prefer the Porsche to the Aston, both inside and out. I haven't actually seen one in the flesh, so I won't completely write it off yet. All academic I know due to the fact I drive a 1500 quid Astra with no current plans to go upmarket!

£200k for an Aston of which £45k were an option pack. Wow !!
I'm not in this league but I know I can get a V8 or an early DB9 for less
than the price of the options - I know where I'm headed.
Sale of the Tiv should help offset the balance to boot.

I've just bought a Vantage for less than the options on that DB11 It was a bit of a toss up between the V8V or a similar priced 911 turbo... I've always thought if I could only have one car it would be the 911, on the basis that it has those two little seats in the back and four wheel drive... I know the 911tt is alot quicker than the V8V, but for me the choice wasn't about speed... The TVR does the speed thing (trackdays) for me and the Golf does the shopping and tip runs The Aston does (or will do) everything else
And, unless I win the lottery, choosing between two £150k cars will never be something I'll have to do...
Just as an afterthought, what's the depreciation going to be like when you drive a £200k (with options) car out of the showroom??

Astons £200k is a joke price for a joke car....hideous to look at to boot!Anyone spending this on a car which will halve in value in the first month is either too rich or too stupid to care.
In contrast the 911 is residually almost blue chip.
Both cars are a travesty. Aston had a truly beautiful car in the DB9 and its immediate descendants, a car which required no styling devices or gimmicks to catch and hold the gaze. For sure it was becoming familiar, but to replace it with this mal-proportioned hotch-potch is terrible.
As for the 911, it has become fat and bloated. It is now an enormous car relative even to its immediate forebear. And an ungainly one, too. Whereas the rear haunches of the original turbo—pretty consistent through to the 993 turbo—were rather shapely and pretty, this version is lumpen and mis-shaped. It looks like an odd potato. From the rear it just looks funny, all those fake exhausts (why four exhausts from a six cylinder? Although I know that the 3.3litre LE cars and the 964 and 993 turbo S cars had four exhaust outlets), badges, lights and lines, they're a mess. It's like a comic-book car.

All cars have increased in size and weight....if disproportionately.
But the 911 has increased less than most and is still relatively chuckable and of a maageable size from a driving perspective along most typical UK b roads.

I think this is the worst looking Aston since the Lagonda, terrible looking made even worse by the Premier league footballer colours.
Terrible.
I love the 911 Turbo S, but as with all modern 911's a bit boring to look at. AMG GT R for me... (if I could afford one )
Oh come on, this was NOT a bad looking car at all given the era............Terrible.

I do think that for the first year at least these DB11s will hold there money. Most reviews are very good and most seen to like the looks especially once seen it the metal and in a classy colour.Anyone spending this on a car which will halve in value in the first month is either too rich or too stupid to care.

The Lagonda was amazing - certainly a stand out car of it's era.
I remember playing in a hockey match when half the people on the pitch simply stopped to work out what the noise was. It was a white Lagonda chugging through the narrow streets, the noise bouncing off the houses & then passing the ground. To say it look out of this world would be an understatement. I'm not sure an Aston has before or since had such a presence. Definitely a love or hate thing, but I'm firmly in the Love camp for that moment decades ago alone...
We should have got the DB10 instead. It looked far better than this, although it did seem like a Vantage sized car - obviously not seen one in metal.
Having said that I don't think this DB11 is too bad as people are making out, yes it's no DB9, that still looks fresh today, but it does look modern and edgy. Not sure about the two tone roof, would like it black/black with a tan or red interior....perhaps Astons press team could have specified the model in that...just a thought.

As much as it pains me to say it, I think that the DB11 looks like it's trying a little bit too hard.
i think we are all used to Aston looking classy/stylish/elegant/muscular/beautiful (delete as appropriate), but this DB11 somehow feels a bit too over-styled for an Aston. They do look better in a darker colour in the metal, but the lighter colours just seem to exaggerate the 'effort' the styling is trying to make.

whomever specced that Aston needs to be re-educated via a firing squad.
The Arden Green of the configurator's starting point works nicely...http://db11.astonmartin.com/home/configure
Some of the leather options wouldn't be out of place in some American car from the '70s or '80s - metallic bronze (or what ever its called) anyone?
Which one would I have?.......Neither, thankyou, I Think if you are paying this sort of money then, your car needs to be a lovely looking car as well.
I love 911`s and love the old Turbo`s but the new generation Turbo have looked over styled and fussy but not in a good way like the Stunning GT3 or 911r.
I hate the 911 Turbo I find it fussy, Boring and not something to get excited about yet I love 911`s in general.
The Aston, Well again I do love Astons, I love the V8 Vantage etc, but this new DB11 is a monstrosity!
Why oh why do they release cars that are worse looking than the ones that have gone before!
Its very frustrating that this is happening, but its not just high end stuff, just look at the new Audi`s, R8 included, The newshape Fords, All the new Honda`s etc etc.
I dont know where car styling is going but what a car looks like is a big part of why I buy one.
Having said that, I prefer a cars handling above all else, but how hard is it to make a nice shape with all the computing power the manufacturers have!
