Yup, and in a world of 7.2 bn people and 1.2 bn cars....hehe

Furthermore the numerous BCA auctions (currently 21 listed) trying to sell these cars are not closed to main dealers but open to the public in contrast to what the poster said.

Hang on, in a universe of six sextillion planets your average punter can buy a VW Golf from an auction?

I'd have thought the finance company would insist on an annual declaration of the mileage otherwise everyone would opt for 5,000 per annum.
I have my Octavia VRS through VWFS and I have to fill in a form every year stating the mileage I'm on 10K a year allowance.

Yeah, weird isnt it, the MK6 is really expensive, even 2009/2010, the M135i seems much better value, there was a immaculate, low miler 2013 at a posh and quite expensive dealers locally for £19,995, probably 2k more than when compared to private examples but didnt seem that bad.
The MK6 R's never came out new with attractive cheap leases like they did with the 7R's so VW couldn't shift them by the bucket-load like they did with the new ones. It makes perfect sense really.

Not many people wanna spend sub 30k on a Golf, fast or not, outright in cash brand-new and without any decent value leases/PCPs meant that they have become quite rare and their values have held firmly.
Yes, you're right. I had a Mk6 Golf R and it cost almost £40k (damn those sexy optional Recaro seats). I lost a lot on it unsurprisingly, but i only ever saw one other on the road during my 2 year ownership spell.

I think it is very over hyped that the Mk7 R is owned by thugs and hoodlums; i see plenty around but have never seen one badly driven. It's clear that familiarity breeds contempt, as i personally think they are still very handsome cars and see the appeal.

If you think that is true, you are clearly in need of some sort of medical assistance IMO.
Most of the ones round here that I've noticed have been driven in more or less that manner. I think he's pretty much on the money...

Because the used market tend to be fairly blind to what new cars can be PCP'd / leased for, and in fact, probably doesnt care.
That's a what a VW dealer salesman told me last year when buying a Tiguan.

We needed it quickly so I initially thought I'd buy a stock car nearly new. Inchcape had over 100 of them but it quickly became apparent that very recent ones (same spec at new) were anything up to £3K more than discounted new. You had to go back over 12mth before they were cheaper, and they had the previous engine and no sat-nav.

And it's not like you could negotiate a lower price - tried two branches and got stone-walled.

I find it hard to believe but the salesman said people just don't make the comparison - they come in thinking they want used and that's what they focus on. I guess in most dealers it's a different sales team so it's not in their interest to swap people around.
Thats why a lot of these places have used car sales teams and new car sales teams.

We've seen it a couple of times - i bought a 535d M Sport new some years ago for the same deal as the same dealer was looking for a year old one with 30K miles. When my wife bought her last Z4 it was cheaper in M Sport spec in the colour combo she wanted, than they could sell her a 6 month old one in SE spec with the old engine type.

I was thinking the same. How do you clock a modern car? Pretty sure the instruments, immobilizer, CAN gateway and Engine ECU are all tied together electronically? Gone are the days when you put a drill in reverse on the speedo cable lol!
pretty easy. laptop and a lead. have you seen how many mileage correction firms are advertised?
Easy to change the little display in the dash, not so easy to change all the other places its stored.

I leased one as a run about for two years, lease ended last month. Managed to buy it of the lease company for what I thought was s fair amount. Be shocked if you could pick up a good one for less than 23k st the mo.

Perfect everyday car to leave at the shops and take to customers if you ask me.

Has any aftermarket manufacturer come up with a replacement exhaust that is similar to the Golf R mk6 set-up or just 2 pipes on ONE side only

Mine is being picked up today by BCA.

10k on the clock, hasn't missed a beat in 2 years, not a mark on it. Not even a curbed wheel.

I look after all my cars, regardless if I paid for it outright or leased it.

WV64 ZDY if it pops up! The Mrs is sorry to see it go/

There is a lot of talk in the trade about all the premium German cars coming onto the second hand market off cheap lease and PCP deals from 2 and 3 years ago. There will be massive over supply and the expectation is for prices to drop accordingly. This will have a knock on effect for new cars as residuals drop on these and the new car leases and PCP's become more expensive. It's just starting to happen. Merc will try to force their dealers to take them, and not sure how VAG group will respond. Should be great opportunities coming up to pick up a few bargains.
As soon as the used cars start to hang around (as new ones are cheaper on monthlies)on dealers forecourts, then the prices will get distressed.

VW themselves (rather then the whole group) may not have an issue as their sales are down about 20% anyway.

Looks like it won't be going to an auction! The guy picking it up said because of the condition it'll go back to a VW garage.

The dealers buy the cars from closed auctions.
